Thinking about switching to OP's or more OP's for a while.

I've been using White Portions for quite some time now. They've been my preference since the beginning.

Lately I've been having a little gum irritation, so I'm thinking about switching it up and using more OP's than WP's for a while.

It seems like when it happens I'll switch to OP's for a few days and it goes away.

So maybe I'm using too many white's and need to switch to the originals for a bit. I dunno.

    Anyone have this happen?

i had a similar problem when i started using snus about 3 yearsa ago. the idea of the white portion seemed more appealing to me for one reason or another. but in the last year and a half or so i keep a solid enough rotation of white and los to where it doesn't happen.

Yeah, I used whites exclusively for a couple of months and tired of them for gum related reasons. Been using original portions for a few months now, and much prefer them.

That said, I've just placed a small order for some whites for the first time in ages, so it'll be interesting to see whether my gums approve. I'm planning on mixing them up with originals this time, though, so hopefully no such problems.

Another reason I prefer OPs is the lack of star formation. I find the non-wedged, moister portions settle in my mouth quicker, and I'm not always playing with them with my tongue.

I've never really used whites due to the uncomfortable portions. There's a few I'd get since that was the only way they came, but never as a regular thing. Lös is best for mouth feel ;^)

Personally, I get more gum irritation from Original Portions, especially Swedish Match brands. Skruf Original and Gotland Yellow are really mellow on the gums.

I mainly use whites, but I generally have regulars in rotation as well. Offroad Frosted, Jaks. WIntergreen. Thunders. Do you wet the whites before using them? I usually lick the side that is going against my gums just to get it a little wet.

              Yeah, I do both sides.

Out of interest, which way round do people put the wedge - thick side forward or back?

Not sure I understand your question?

on some of the SM white portions like onyx and grovsvart and such they do the wedge shaped portions, i think that is what he is refering to. asking if you put the thicker part of the wedge towards the front or the back of your mouth. i personally put the thicker end of the portion towards the back.

FWIW, I use 99% op's and I never have any gum issues, so what you're saying makes sense to me.

Back in the beginning, I used Onyx a lot which is a white (black) portion, and they irritated the hell out of me until I learned to flatten out the wedges first. I hate the wedges. They do like nice in the can though.

If that's it then neither. I "fluff" the portion out to resemble a normal looking portion. Then fold in half long wise seam facing in.

I really dislike the star pattern snus. It looks great in the tin, but isn't as usable. I don't do anything special with them. I throw it in, and it goes where it goes, but it takes awhile before it gets comfortable. I prefer portions that are just dumped in the tin.

I have been drawn to OPs more lately too. The only whites I currently own are Grov and those never gave my gums a problem. Maybe once they did, but nothing like General WP...those actually hurt after a while. Tre sometimes wrecks my gums too but it's not available any other way so I don't buy it often.

If you have a stock of WPs you can always hydrate them a little. Of course it won't be like they come from the factory but if you add some moisture to the can it helps. Sometimes I open a can of grov OP and grov WP then combine the cans and split it so there's a dozen of each per can. It takes a couple of days but the whites get softer for sure.

Yes, that's what I meant! I really don't like star formation portions. With OPs they can just go straight in with no reshaping, and I find whites a faff to reshape, and the wedge shape is just wrong.
