It's a pity that the EU doesn't see that they've done a mistake. Snus and its harm reduction would be great for countries like Austria and Greece, where about 50% of the population are smokers.

And I look forward to the day His Majesty King Harald's Government cuts the extra snus taxes. On a can of coke you pay 14% tax in Norway. On other food products it's 11%. On snus it's 30%. Please, remove the tax!

I don't think you should start celebrating. The outcome of the consultation hasn't been published yet.

I just hope it doesn't go the other way and instead they somehow manage to ban sales of snus outside of Sweden's borders within the EU by mail order in some way, that would suck big time :/

The government takes the battle to snuff

Stockholm. The Swedish government put in another gear in the battle for snuff. Social Affairs Göran Hägglund (kd) requires a response to the EU directive on tobacco to ban the sale of snus in the EU suspended, reports the Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet.

Hägglund writes that snus is "substantially less harmful than cigarettes," and that the ban on snus in the EU therefore "not logical".

Thus, the government at odds with its own experts from the National Board and National Public Health Institute.

From the Swedish newspaper "Aftonbladet" 20/2-2011, translated by Google....
