Well, I still smoke on occasion socially. And I don't think I'll quit until I have my snuff supply issues ironed out. I will have a smoke with my wife in the mornings with a cup of coffee, and when I have friends over I'll go out and maybe have a smoke with them just to socially interact. But other than that, it doesn't really appeal to me anymore. Just seems stinky and dumb to me after 20 years of smoking, and I think I want to train for the Warrior Dash next fall : http://www.warriordash.com/locations.php

I voted smoke less, even though I have quit smoking completely. To explain Snus, Snuff, and ebven snus + snuff, got me most of the way there. The final ingredient of the e-cig is what really took the need for real cigs away. I am now trying to step down my e-cig use. However the snus really was a big help. And should I successfully step down the physical habit with the e-cig then I will probably just use snus and snuff only. At least that is the goal.

so what got you off cigarettes?

          used NRT?

I'd say snus is an NRT (and much better than patches or gum)

I quit about 8 years ago, was going to school for vocal music (classical), and woke up one day and told myself I didn't want to smoke a pack a day anymore and continue to ruin my voice...so I quit, just like that. I miss the hell out of smoking, and I enjoyed it, and when I drink I will have one or two. I found snus about 4-5 years later.

Snus was the only viable option for me to permanently quit smoking. I tried nicotine gum and patches with no avail -- ironically, it was easier to quit "cold turkey", since the low nicotine levels in NRT products increased my cigarette cravings -- the exact opposite of what they were intended to do. I enjoy snus because it gives me the same satisfaction as cigarettes, sans the lung cancer and plethora of other health problems.

I quit about 5 times using the Patch. Anywhere from 1 month to 8 months. This last time I quit, I lasted about a month, bought a pack of smokes, lit up, then asked myself "Wtf are you doing?". threw the cig and the pack out the window and grabbed a can of Grizzly dip.

About 2 weeks later I say an ad for the Tourney SNUS at Speedway. I tried it and looked up snus online. Ended up here and started ordering some. Another month or so after that I was ordering snus on a regular basis and only smoked the occasional cigar when I was at a party or large get together than included drinking. Helped those kinds of tough urges to smoke w/o inhaling like I would with a cig, but it still 'felt' like I was smoking. I don't even do that anymore.

Now I just snus and occasionally (every 3 months or so) buy a can of dip for shits and giggles.

I smoked from the age of 13 to about 28.

I was able to quit a 2+ pack a day habit with snus. I'll be one year smoke-free in a little over a month.

Don't worry, just give it time. The snus will win.

So true man. The worst for me was about a months ago, I was watching that HBO documentary with Fran Lebowitz "Public Speaking", full of archival footage of her in the 70's just chain smoking. If that wasn't rough enough the next thing on my DVR was the movie "Coffee and Cigarettes". By the end I was chaining GES.

I hate to say it, but if all these smoking bans weren't in place, and I could still smoke in a diner/bar, I don't think I would have quit. Coffee/beer in one hand, cigarette in the other, table full of funny/smart people....man I really miss it...

I think this right here is a big part of making the transition to smokeless easier. You can't freakin' smoke ANYWHERE these days. I could never go back to cigs because I just flat out can't smoke them anywhere.
