snusdog the ban aparently is on any additive that allows nicotine uptake

there was a really good interview with some researcher from swedish match ...... but i can't find the bloody
link anymore. Anyway he said it is a prohibition against using any additives that promote nicotine release/uptake
in tobacco products .... and he seemed concerned . Sorry to be a party pooper ; may all just blow over there are many
other stages it has to go through i think before finalised.

        @Snusdog
You're right! But! This ban is only for Eporting Snus outside of Sweden! Inside Sweden, there is NO ban!! So the companies are still producing the same Snus!
There "just" not allowed to Export into EU!! So, since Switzerland is NOT part of the EU, we're still allowed by law, to order and Import to Switzerland.

        @GN
Yes/No. By law, we are NOT allowed to SELL Snus in stores. We do have to order Snus/Dip/Chew over the Internet.
But by law, Posses/use/Import of smokeless tobacco is allowed. The drawback is, we pay a high ammount of Import tax for custom.
A "normal" can of Snus ranks up to abbout $ 6.00 - 8.00 after tax.

And, to make the hole Thing a Little bit more complicated: Thunder Chew and Makla IS allowed to be sold!!
Just NOT Snus in Portion .... Don't ask me why.

But there is a polit guy who try's! to get that changed. His Name is Lukas Reimann. We "all" hope ...
All in Geman, but Google will help ;-)

Ohhh... shoot!! I didn't realized that. So that would be really bad.

I hope, Sweden IS leaving the EU and do, as we do. Stay away of this shitty, Money sucking, worthless "thing" called EU and be FREE of all the regulations.

i don't really follow politics -somehow- so don't really know if the EU is a good thing or a bad thing
It seems they either have nefarious intentions , influenced by big tobacco ; or they're just a bunch of idiots
who don't have the right information...... like me.

Thinking about it though; it wouldn't be to hard to purchase some e500 yourself - or another acidity regulator -
and add t to loose snus , and portion them yourself.... or just kee it loose. I think e500 is sodium carbonate , or baking soda
not to hard to get hold of .

Couldnt they use edible lime instead. Just sent angryish email to MEP Linda McAvan.

God stuff like this really makes you loose faith in politics. Tory's are scum of the earth and the only other choice(labour) is no better. Shame the Lib Dems sold out they had my vote in the last election and they would have had it in the next too.

Meh at this rate ill probably go back to smoking.

If Sweden does pull out of the EU, we all win. They can make what they want, and export it where they want.

idk the uk seizes any tobacco coming from the states. They might just get sniffer dogs on the parcels coming from sweden and seize all the snus coming in.

Just panic brought 70 cans of thunder...

I went back and read Larry's Article.....it seems a bit more serious than I first thought and a true backdoor attempt to ban snus production outright (at least the production of snus in any realistic form)

That said, I don't think this will hold. If Sweden is really set to walk over the issue, the stakes are just too high for parliamentary tricks and backdoor maneuvers.

In fact, voting this down might be the thread of twine that starts the whole ball of string unraveling (I doubt it....... but one can hope).

In the end I think the status quo for snus will be maintained. I believe the real change on the harm reduction front that will come out of all this is the classification of e-cigs as pharmaceutical........my bet is that this one sticks

Thus at the end of the day:

                            1) snus will maintain as is

                            2) e-cigs will be re-classed as pharmaceutical thus opening the door for further regulations and restrictions (all of which will be directed by the lobbyist of the big Tobacco and Drug companies......neither of which want to see snus or e-cigs break into their multi billion dollar monopoly)

That's my take......well see how it plays out in late September

Good Article Larry!.....thanks for passing it along alopezg1

                              Thanks snusdog

i had managed to keep mostly oblivious to the whole thing until i went to snuscentral
intending to buy some snus and thought i'd have a quick peek at the article ..... i was a little taken a back

Christopher Fjellner is a young Swedish MEP and a snus user himself ; his blog: http://www.fjellner.eu/after-vote-re...cts-directive/
is very helpful and he probably is in the best position to comment on the latest developments if anyone is interested
