I was very much of the opinion that hell would freeze over before they legalised snus in the E.U. Everyone I have spoken to in the industry though is very optimistic at the moment. I guess if it is going to happen we will start seeing stuff in the media soon, as re educating the public will need to start in advance of any legislative change.

              http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/manuals/tpdmanual/TPD18070.htm

The scope of UK Excise law

The scope of Tobacco Products Duty is set out in section 1 of the Tobacco Products Duty Act 1979. As oral snuff is not for smoking, the only product type that comes close is chewing tobacco which is included through section 1(1)(e). The meaning of chewing tobacco in relation to the act is further described in The Tobacco Products (Descriptions of Products) Order 2003. Section 8 of the order describes chewing tobacco as a tobacco product which doesn’t come under any of the other descriptions and has been prepared so that it can be chewed. The nature of oral snuff would make it impractical to chew and this is not the intention. Therefore oral snuff is not within the scope of Tobacco Products Duty as currently described in UK law.
snus isn't taxed (as a tobacco product) in the UK. If you are ordering from America, they'll add VAT I believe.

Ok, now I'm confused :s So they would charge 20% VAT on it plus the Royal Mail handling charge?

Question might be a dumb one however: Why then do we have to pay Swedish Tax when buying from Sweden if its exported?

well from my experience (I've successfully gotten 2 rolls from america in one shipment.) they don't add anything.
Some poor guy did get a charge for 1 roll of ettan los of 92 pounds. I don't know what the charge consisted of.

As I understood it Northerner/BuySnus purchased it for you in Sweden and then sent it home to you.

it's not exported, we are technically buying it "in Sweden", and they send it to us. I'm not certain of this, but it makes sense, because Sweden cannot export snus into the EU.

Sorry Pris...does that mean then if we buy it "direct" we forgo that Sweden Tax part cause its quite substantial..assuming of course that everything returns to "normal"?

I would imagine you would have to pay any taxes on goods in the country they're sold in within the EU but when you buy outside the EU you pay your own country's taxes through your Customs when the goods arrive.
