Here is a good bit of advice! Never smell the snus in the can! It is an old adage but still a good one I Think. Chad has some good advice, but he has been here too long and we have warped his soul!

Who are you going to listen to, ME, or the Ambassador of Snus? I am off to listen to the Godfather of Soul, The hardest working man in show business, and the Night Stalker!

Just keep at it and never throw any snus away, give it another go in a month.

Ok so I just put in a General Mint and I do like this one very much! It has good taste with a Nic hit like nothing I have ever had. I have done alot of Camel and this hits way harder then that, does anyone know the NIC content of the two for comparison? Plus if I open one and dont like it and wanna try it again what is the best way to store it to keep it fresh once opened?? Thanks guys this is alot of fun so far.....

General Mint was surprisingly amazing... give it a shot. I just finished my first dip of it and was surprised at how good it was compared to the "americanized" snus.

Camel snus - around 0.5-1mg per portion (only about 20-40% absorption)
Cigarette full flavor - 1.2mg per smoke (but it enters the brain quicker and doesn't last as long)
General Mint regular- 8mg per portion (again only 20-40% absorption)
General Mint mini - 4mg per portion (20-40%'' '' '')

Sounds like you're getting it. Stick with it. I started with Camel also, and when I first tried Swedish snus the flavor came as a shock, and I didn't think I liked it. I was surprised that it was so salty and unsweet compared to the Camel. I mostly set the Swedish aside and came back to it later and realized my tastes had changed. Eventually, the Swedish won over, and now it's all I want, and I find Camel too sweet, even though I still have a real sweet tooth outside of snus.

the newest version (july 2010) of Camel snus contains 8mg of nicotine per pouch, according to an RJ Reynolds spokesman.

"Nicotine (Original): 14.5 mg/g ; Free Nicotine, 2.4 mg/g ; Total tobacco specific nitrosamines (TSNA): 1.4 mg/g"

however note it's also been said that

"Nicotine content could vary by product flavor type as a specific intention of the manufacturer to create a consumer acceptable nicotine effect-flavor balance "




Really my guess is as good as any... because you can't convince me that camel snus has 8mg of nicotine... I wouldn't even believe it had 4mg of nicotine. When i used camel snus I just wanted to smoke a cigarette all the time. With regular and mini portion swedish snus I want nothing to do with cigarettes at all.

That is why I use the General Mint mini's.

Even a Mini will hit harder then the Camel snus for me.

I don't think the Nic content makes the end difference I think it is a combination of the user using it and the ingredients of the particular snus which changes its PH.

Curious if the sweetness of the General mint was enough for you.

One other snus that seems to be as sweet but I did not care for that much was the Discreet snus, which I don't know if that is American or Swedish. I only tried the Peach and Strawberry, but they were on the sweet side. (I did not care for the tobacco they use, the flavor after the added flavor goes away)

One other thing I have noticed is out of any of the people that I know that I have tried to turn onto Snus, the General mint is the one they all seem to like.

I give the stuff away any chance I can.

Ahh I remember wehn I first started the swedish stuff... I was right where you are now I was so excited to give up my camel and try something new. It came in and the first can I opened was a Jaks Icefruit the smell was atrocious and I think I had the portion in for all of 20 minutes before it went bitter I gagged and had to get rid of it. I thought had I just wasted a bunch of money but thanks to the advice I found on this site I tried the Gotes Rape 2 and six months later and a freezer so full of snus I get yelled at daily Im a swedish snus junky. Everyone has there own tastes, so my advise is grab a different can each day so you get a good feel for that portion over the course of a few portions and youll figure out which ones you like and which you dont.

Also pay attention to the Nic content when ordering I use mainly sterks now but if I had started on sterks I wouldve been turned off.

I recommend buying only a couple cans of the stuff you realize you like at first because snus has a way of changing your tastes. I liked the flavoured minty stuff at first so I boughta whole bunch of it and my taste has changed a ton since i started 6 months ago. Alot of people notice this phenomenon and get stuck with a bunch of snus they no longer like. At this point out ofthe thirty or so snuses Ive tried there are only two I will buy a whole roll of.

As far as storage a system Ive found to work effectively is the ziplock vacuum system. it only costs around 6 dollars for the hand pump and a few starter bags. I vacuum seal my unopened cans and toss them in the freezer. Swedish snus tends to keep very well when airtight and frozen way past its expiration date.
