Nicotine - Can you taste it?

I was searching on nicotine taste and found that in several places on the net, they talk about the taste of nicotine. For Nicotine Gum, they say when you taste the bitter nicotine taste, and notice numbness etc.. to stop chewing etc.... To give it time to subside... I guess....

Well, as I am having this Hard Dissolvable Snuff in my lip and when I smeared it, that same bitterness is there that I notice on a Snus portion, that bitterness that crawls down your front teeth, some call it leakage or whatever.... I think that is the taste of Nicotine.

Curious if you all likewise have found the taste of nicotine identifiable.

I don't think that I ever tasted nicotine. The milligram-quantities are just too little.

The pepperyness or bitterness in nicotine-gums surely has nothing to do with nicotine. I guess it comes from added flavors, flavors that are everything else but enjoyable BTW.

The slight bitterness in snus IMHO comes from the tanning agents of the tobacco-plant. It's especially noticeable in cheap brands with little nicotine as far as I can tell.

I don't know much about dissolvable tobacco-bits, but also there I guess the taste will most likely come from some kind of food-acidifier, not nicotine.

I may be totally wrong though and my tastebuds are certainly not in the best shape after many years of cigarette-smoking.

    Cheers!

      I found this here:

      http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/d...r/a684056.html

Usually treatment is started by using the 2-mg gum. Heavy smokers (those smoking more than 25 cigarettes per day) may start by using the 4-mg gum. Nicotine gum may be used regularly by chewing one piece of gum every 1-2 hours at first, or it may be used by chewing one piece of gum whenever you have the urge to smoke.

Nicotine gum should be chewed slowly until you can taste the nicotine or feel a slight tingling in your mouth. Then stop chewing and place (park) the chewing gum between your cheek and gum. When the tingling is almost gone (about 1 minute), start chewing again; repeat this procedure for about 30 minutes.

Do not chew nicotine gum too fast, do not chew more than one piece of gum at a time, and do not chew one piece too soon after another.

If you are using the 2-mg gum, do not chew more than 30 pieces a day if you are under the supervision of a doctor or 24 pieces a day if you are not under the supervision of a doctor. If you are using the 4-mg gum, do not chew more than 24 pieces a day.

Bondzai, to speak of nicotine in connection with these useless gums is a bit of an euphemism IMHO.

When I tried to stop smoking with nicorette gums, my mouth sometimes tasted as if I had eaten a pepper-sack and yet I didn't get the slightest buzz. In fact I was craving nicotine all day while chewing this crap like a madman.

I once heard, that pure nicotine is sold in some drugstores (as a pesticide). To be sure about the real taste of nicotine, I'd buy a little bottle of that and just taste a very small amount of it.

Overall, I'm really not sure if nicotine can be tasted or not in snus and other tobacco-products, but I'm very sure that the crappy taste of nicotine-gums is not the taste of nicotine  .

        Cheers!

I wouldnt go tasting a drop of pure nicotine unless you want to suffer a massivly painful heart attack within seconds. But if you do, try to tell us what it tasted like before you die.

I agree with this 100%. There is only one real benefit to these pharmaceutical "NRTs": They generate beaucoup d'argent ($$$) for the people who sell them at obscenely inflated prices. It's a racket cresting on the wave of the anti-tobacco mania.

In all my reading, aside from that passage on nicotine gum, I've never read reference to a nicotine taste.

You want nicotine? (Don't even think of tasting an insecticide!) Get that new and very powerful Wise tasteless snus with the obscene English name. I came to really like it and its powerful nic hit. Taste? Absolutely none. Major burn. But no taste.

It does its job while drinking anything, or even snacking.

That's it. I like it and will order again. At certain times, it's all that will do.
