I have a portion of Grov in now and its been in for 45 minutes. IMO its spent, but not totally... nevertheless, because I am drinking maybe, I crave the kick... just like if you were a smoker, you might remember smoking more when drinking? Well.... its not totally spent, but I want a bigger kick... maybe a Nick and Johnny will help.... or.... one of those General Onyx... I am curious how you all determine to chuck a pris/portion...... is it the kick that counts?
How do you know when a portion is spent

I think 45 minutes is probably a good time to chuck the portion. It all depends what you like to do. Some portions I have used for over an hour still have flavor. Do you keep it in until all the flavor is gone? I would venture to say that the majority of the nicotine is already out of it after 30 mins, before the flavor is removed. It depends on the snus and how much saliva you put up there to pull the flavor out of it. If you want a bigger kick just pony up with two portions of your favorite snus at the start.

I take it out when I notice that I want to take it out. I can go two hours, or sometimes, after 30 minutes, the taste just comes on too strong and I need to give it a rest. That especially can happen to me if I am using any skruff, or even Lucky Strike.
I tend to stick with snuses that hold up well over time, so I rarely use snus any more that gets slimy early. So it really is just when I think about it.

I'm like sagedil. In general don't time my portions any more. I used to do that when I started snusing, mainly just because I've probably got some OCD in me . If I'm busy at work, it's not uncommon for me to leave a portion in for 2 hours or more. Some portions seem to lose their flavor gracefully by basically not having any flavor and others seem to go to this really bad flavor (I had that with both yellow and green gotlandssnus which I know a lot of people like, but they didn't work for me). If I'm drinking I'm changing them out after about 30-45 minutes or so (every two or three beers roughly), unless it's N&J. I used to have trouble with portions getting slimey but I think that was just because of how I handled them. I'm not sure what changed, but I haven't noticed that problem recently (I think I suck the liquid out of them more now than I used to).
I find I get more time out of los, but that's probably just because the pris I make is larger than a portion.

For me, a portion is spent, when I get appetite for more nicotine. That can be after 1 hour or after 5 hours. On average, I use a portion for 2 hours. Rare accidents, e.g. when a portion bag rips open, also play a role, of course. As long as I have something to drink, the tobacco juice is no problem for me. With most brands, the tobacco juice even is no problem at all.
Cheers!

I usually ditch a portion after maybe an hour, although sometimes one can go for two hours or more before I start to get tired of it being there.
Some brands, like Nick and Johnny, seem to last a really long time before the flavor dies down, and I won't need any more for about another hour after taking it out.

I tend to use loose exclusively, but when I do have a portion I tend to swap em out about every 1.5-2hr. I also tend to use 2 at once. If I get to the point where I find myself chewing on them or having to really work the things to get some flavor out of them prior to that 1.5-2hr mark, it is time to toss em.

So, what exactly is "running"? I'm beginning to wonder if there's two types of snusare, those who enjoy the "juice" and those who don't... I'm nor eof the Xobe school of things, I'm usually sucking slightly on the pris or portion almost encourage flavor out of it, with some loose I'll even occasionally pull a few grains off the pris with my tongue to get a stronger flavor into my mouth. 1-2 hours is usually fine with me, although I've occasionally looked at the clock and notice I've had the same portion in for 3 hours or so.
