NEW General Snus for America

Damn if you aren't one of the first 3 people to comment on a thread here there is nothing left to say. It's nice to see people that think the same way I do.

Apparently, General will only be available in "coffin" cans (akin to N&J West, East) in the near future for the American market.
Are they killing off the rest of the General line for USA market?
Many of us like their General product but many other SM products also! There should of been more push to add existing SM products in this point of the game and not try to copy the USA sinking version of Camel (thinking that is what USA wants).
I am also kinda suprised that they did not use anybody from our forum for testing? They never listened to their customers advice and I guess why should they? They are big tobacco.
Who is doing it the right way? Northerner.
They are bringing variety to B/M stores of existing products and not trying to change the product to look better for retarded Americans.

It sounded like he signed up on some sort of survey site, which SMA apparently used to send out test tins of Snus. I don't think SMA picked this guy in particular, they just paid someone else to test market their stuff.
That being said, three test markets? Come on. None of them are even remotely close to me. LOL.

While I prefer the round tin, something that happened the other day leads me to believe Americans in general would be more accepted of a coffin tin shape. I offered a long time friend of mine a portion. He has been a smoker as long as I have known him. As soon as he saw my can he said "I had bad experiences with dip, no thanks"... no amount of my convincing spiel at that point was going to get him to even place a portion in his mouth. And of course he demanded to smell the snus, and that was that.
Had it been in a tin that didn't scream "dip" I might have convinced him it wasn't the evil dip monster that eats your bottom jaw off, but much more pleasant and less harmful snus. I will just continue to purchase my snus online and get cans from Sweden until my loving government declares a ban on all foreign mail. But I do wish that SM would at least attempt to educate American consumers a bit more. Especially after Camels misleading marketing strategy and horrible products have tainted the market. Its amazing to me how many people have either never heard of snus, or equate it with dip.
So if it takes a crappy can to make America embrace snus I am all for it.
As for the wimpy slow kid in this vid, this survey company needs to take a hard look at their age verification process. Vids like this are used as ammo in the war on tobacky. (It's for the children)

Haha! Snuss! That's how my friend at work would pronounce it when I introduced him to the Swedish stuff. Even though I say "snoose" every time, he insists on "snuss" :-)
And what's with all the criticism of this kid? The lot of you just sound jealous that SM sent him a sample pack and not you :-P I'd thank him for making this clip; now I'll know what to look for at tobacco shops in the future.
(edit: and no, I'm not that kid! Nor do I know him! haha)

The product in this video is simply a test, nothing more. It's not a product that will be released unless testing goes well.
The product mentioned in this thread:
http://www.snuson.com/forum/showthre...coming-from-SM!
Is still coming. Though I can't publically say what it is, I can say it's something that a lot of you will be excited about.
Round cans aren't going anywhere. They're the standard and we'll see them for a long time to come!

I hate to say it but SM may be onto something. Having the packaging for snus look different in my experience does cause more people to realize that it is a different product from dip, where I have had people see my snus cans before and call it dip, which then causes me to give them a nice long lecture. However even when camel snus was a new product, if I mentioned to someone that I use snus they almost always said, ahh like camel snus? I have never had anybody mention Triumph for example which at that time it was at about every gas station around here.
I think the packaging catches peoples attention and makes them think that it is something different when they see it behind the counter. How many times does someone who doesn't dip look at the new dip cans when they walk into a gas station? I think the square cans would be a lot more noticable rather than just looking like a new dip offering.

ehm................No.
I can see that the new shaped tin might appeal to US customers but I personally think it looks naff.
That new tin will not hold the standard amount of snus either - which is naff.
I understand that this person is probably a dipper and that's how he got the sample - but it's still naff.
There are some products in the SM range which I just think are - naff.
There just doesn't seem to be anything that special about SM at the moment. I understand their reasons for withdrawing their snus to the EU but I don't have to like it either - so that might be having an effect on me right now.
(naff in English means crap)
