Do You Place Your Portion Seam Up or Down?

OK, guys, I apologize if these questions have been settled elsewhere on the forum, but I have a few inquiries about portion placement that has been somewhat nagging me--I tend to worry too much by nature.

    1. Are the portions never to touch the gum line? This would seem like a difficult proposition. Or rather, do your best to avoid the portion to touch your gum line? I find the little side papers usually hanging over my teeth (I fold my portion lengthwise).

    2. How far do you shove those portions up there? Is it simply a matter of preference? Is there such a thing as too far up into the mouth?

    3. I've been trying to avoid placing the portion directly in the middle, where that "stringy" thing is, based on what I've read on the forum. I've been placing the portion to the right or left of it. But for loose, I've been reading some say to place a pris right in the middle. So, does the portion bag irritate that stringy thing below the upper lip more than the loose snus?

Be forewarned, I have two cans of General loose coming in the mail. More newbie questions forthcoming.

BTW -- Snus has literally freed me from dipping the poison in Skoal and its companions in a single day. My desire for dipping is precisely at 0%. And I cannot thank snus enough. And I cannot thank you guys enough for helping me out and answering my questions

    1. "du snuser ikke med tenna" is a old norwegan snus proverb.
it means you don't snus with your teeth.

    2. as far as you whant, I try to get is as far up as I can.

    3. place it where ever you darn pleace. booth loose and portion will irritate and after a wille eat away the string. It has done that with me, it is allmost
completely gone. that's how you get that characteristic "snus leppa", snus lip.
when it goes a little limp and hangs a bit.

Re: Portion Placement Question (Gum line, shove it, etc. ...

      1. Are the portions never to touch the gum line?Well you are supposed to keep the snus as far up as possible, and if you haven't growed a hole yet it might touch your gum line, but don't worry nothing will happen to your gum line anyway.

      2. How far do you shove those portions up there? All the way up

Is it simply a matter of preference?
      Yeah

Is there such a thing as too far up into the mouth?
      No

3.So, does the portion bag irritate that stringy thing below the upper lip more than the loose snus?

Doubt it, i have used portion snus in the middle for 4 years now, and my stringy thing is just fine.

        I envy you!

Thank for the clarification on snus placement! I'm still going through the learning process. I find that loose wanders toward the teeth more than portions do, for me anyway.

markcat, I don't know if you saw this mentioned previously in other threads, but relaxing your upper lip is a big help for both portions and loose. Without tension in the lip both are more likely to (a) stay in place, and (b) not smash directly against the gum line or teeth noticeably. Placement as far up as possible with portions or loose is key, though.

I put my portions in up front and tight when they're new, then move them towards the back after 10-15 minutes. It's kind of where you'd put chewing tobacco, but on the top side.

I do that to slow down the run when very fresh, then speed it up as the flavor leaves.

                  Snus and placement

Hi there everyone, I am a fairly new snuser about 2 weeks and 2 weeks smoke free yay me so far I am having some very minor issues with my top gums, a little bleeding which I believe is from the irritation and me trying to brush them and some soarness. I will try to get my question asked here clearly. Basically I would like to know what is the real difference between using it in the top lip instead of the bottom. Anything really besides spitting that would be a problem? Thanks for the help anyone I would just like to give my top gums a break before they worsen to heal and still want to get my nic from the snus so I don't revert back to smoking I guess I have no self control but hey!

                  Thanks,
                  Endity

Hi endity. You can use your lower lip, no problem. You'll get a little more juice but you can deal with that. I kind of went through that myself. After a couple of days my gums got better and the snus started finding its way up top again.

Oh, and congrats on the smoke free!

Welcome endity. Move the portion around. Don't leave it in one spot until your gums get accustomed to the salt and slight abrasiveness of the pouches then you should find this not to be so much a bother with time. Bottom lipping is fine just might produce a little more drip which you can swallow anyhow. Whatever works best for you is the proper way to snus!

Down being the side that rests on the gums.

Isn't this a bit like asking if people prefer soft or rough toilet paper?
Oh dear, it seems I am a bit grumpy today. I vote for seam up.
