How long until the snus won?

Yo guys. Just wondering if you could share your experience on how long it took for you to completely transition from cigs to snus.

I read in a Swedish study somewhere it takes on average 18 months to make the full transition.

It's getting easier to choose the snus over the smokes but I still find myself fiending for a cig even while I have the snus in. Usually I'll smoke immediately before and after I snus. I use sterks but nothing seems to be satisfying that crave except a cig.

I'm wondering if I'll ever be able to break the cig addiction and switch to snus full time. Is willpower the key? I don't really want to quit nicotine completely but I feel like as long as I use snus I'll end up smoking anyway.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated....

It took about 3 days... Then one day I was about an hour away from home for the day working and didn't grab any snus... so i needed smokes... Fell back into smoking for about 2 months. Then went back to snus took about 3 days again... Those 3 days are tough. My wife still smokes and I have an old pack of smokes in the fridge but while I do crave one once in awhile the second i light it and take my first puff i'm repulsed by the taste and put it out or give it to my wife.

It was about 8 months for me, but I wasn't really interested in quitting cigarettes either. After awhile it got to the point where I was smoking just out of habit, and I thought that was stupid, so I quit taking them to work with me.

I smoke a couple cigarettes per week, but I don't have to. I enjoy them with that frequency, and if that little bit is harmful, so be it. Ya gotta die some time :^)

I loved snus from the beginning and it was a fairly smooth transition. I did smoke for a while on occasion, say once or twice a month for a while, but snus was love at first taste!

Three days. I started snusing because I was quitting smoking (hate smoking but love nicotine). On the third day I was craving a cig so I lit one up and coughed and immediately put it out. That was when I realized I needed to increase snus intake and it was my last cig, over 2 years ago.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I HATE smoking and I love snus. I think it's the quick nic hit and also the habit that has me hooked on cigs. I've been trying to break habits like snusing when I wake up instead of chainsmoking a few cigs. And also popping in a los while I'm driving helps.

I think it's time to suck it up and use some strength and willpower to get off the smokes.

Speaking of quick nic hits....snuff has a quick hit, right? Maybe that would help. Never tried it.

Snus is awesome. There are so many varieties and flavors to try. Plus, I like the boards here, trading, etc...

It took me about 3 weeks to let go of cigarettes with snus.

On day one I had about 5 cigarettes which was good as I normally smoked 40. By the end of the first week the only cigarettes I seemed to be able to not let go of was the first cigarette of the morning. over the next 2 weeks that cigarette went.

It took me about a day maybe two days. I used Extra Sterk.

I was a lifelong smoker and nothing had worked previously.

                    Three months or so....

I tried snus to get off cigarettes but made some poor choices and wound up dipping for six months or so after I had switched to snus.

I would buy a guy I work with a pack of smokes and every time I had bummed 20 cigarettes id buy him another pack. By the middle of the third month I was taking a drag and pitching the cigarette.

I had my last cigarette on the day before my sons birthday two years ago. Keeps me strong to know I would be letting him and myself down if I smoked again....but mostly him.

Also...this place helped quite a bit to keep me thinking of snus rather than cigarettes....and later dip when I came back.

                    And then came the snuff.

                    Do it.

Yeah, I've already noticed that spending more time here today and actually posting instead of lurking has helped cut back on the smokes. I'm going to start rationing my smokes and putting more effort into snusing. It's definitely more enjoyable and I'm not hacking. Congrats on 2 years, dude!

And also congrats to everyone else who has made the switch. Helps to know it's completely possible.

That was pretty much my transition period, too. Kept the smokes in the car so I'd only smoke while driving. Slowly got to 1 Friday night smoke a week and the last time I found it to be exceptionally foul and unenjoyable. Since I wasn't enjoying it I thought I'd see how long I could go without them and just snus. I also nearly chain snus so I never get a physical desire to smoke. Weird thing, I started snus to cut down a bit on the smoking and wasn't thinking to quit but snus is just that superior to smoking. Took me by complete surprise.

I have cut my cig intake down by a quarter to almost a third over the past couple of days hanging with a couple old cans of General but is has been tough. Luckily my first order from Northerner is coming tomorrow or Tuesday (drive UPS man, DRIVE!) and I am hoping the variety will help give me a new focus and eagerness to try the new stuff and not think about the smokes as much. My next order is going to be as varied as I can afford to see if the sheer number of choices yet to sample can redirect my leaning towards a cig

I have been doing this too to some degree....I imagine it is pretty common(?)

I was really keen to quit so made the transition in a day. I chain snused, moved up to sterks after a week or so and used snuff when I needed an extra bump. I now use snuff as my main source of nicotine and some days don't use snus at all.
