Excellent rant on Snus! Especially liked the shakedown. I have so much enjoyed the way the men in the middle have ignored and then gouged us. The only Snus love I have felt was Jimmy's Flader los try (Yummy), and GN's sudden efforts. Extreme los at full strength has sat me down one time too many! It's a case of too little LOS and too much Nic!

      Ah Lx!

So we do agree about Gotlands then! I think it all started to go wrong when they changed the grind of their lös. Before that it was a PITA to bake (not quite as hard as Gellivare but close) but the yellow lös tasted amazing then.

They're just chasing the big time now with their sweetened wintergreen Jakobsons portions and the such like. And it's a shame on 2 fronts - 1) we lose a well established traditional artisan product that's ripe for luxury marketing down the line and 2) I don't think they'll win on the business front either because SM or BAT or some other big tobacco company will come and take it away from them if they prove it works.

I wish I used lös more. It feels as if I should and I prefer the idea of it. However I'm still a portion bloke.

        Great post SJ.

I think you are spot on

I hope Jimmy and Co will listen and at least give the old school los a fair chance

lxskllr - Hmm... the grind of the Gul is different. I don't like it quite as well as before.

Jimmy - We changed the grind to make it easier to hand bake.

lxskllr - I can understand that, I guess. The snus really did lose some dimension, but it still tasts good, so it's all cool.

lxskllr - Grön lös would be amazing. You guys should consider making that.

Jimmy - Nope. Can't do it.

Jimmy - Now introducing the Jakobsson line with Classic and IceFruit!

lxskllr - I'm kind of digging this. The Classic is good, but not quite as good as the Gul portion. IceFruit?! weird as hell, but I'm digging it. Good summer snus, and still tastes like it's made for adults.

Jimmy - Now introducing Jakobsson's wintergreen strong!

          lxskllr - !@#$%

Jimmy - Now introducing Jakobsson's strong mint, and classic strong!

lxskllr - Sweet? Really? Sweet?? Ok, the mint isn't bad. Not a fan of sweet, but the complex flavor is interesting. Classic? no thanks. It's better than Camel, but sweet doesn't belong oin traditional snus. You guys are starting to scare me now....

Jimmy - Due to lack of sales, we're discontinuing Gotland Gul.

lxskllr - WTF?! No, seriously WTF?!?!?! One of the best, most unique snuses on the market, and you're getting rid of it?! Now there's only 1 lös left in the portfolio. Really?! :^S

Jimmy - Gotland Grå portion will now be called Jakobsson's licorice. It's the same snus you've always loved, but with fewer portions in a tin that doesn't seal as well.

          lxskllr - grumbles....

If Gotlandssnus puts out another los.....plain, bergamot...something to use all day.... I will raise their flag and declare allegiance to them once again. For now they may be an occasional portion buy but in these times where roll purchases are the most economical way to buy snus.......looks bad for me and them being an item.

I want to feel bad because Jimmy is a standup guy who makes some great flavors that I will fondly remember.

But i don't.....I love los and can find other great options out there.

Odens and v2 have my full support. Both companies have awesome lossnus options in their portfolios that I enjoy and will gladly buy rolls of when I need to restock my freezer.

I'm pretty stoked about GN. I've been VERY impressed with the Extreme, and I'm looking forward to their future releases. I like V2 a lot, but I'd have a hard time making them my primary snus. Danish snus is different from Swedish snus, and I prefer Swedish for day to day use. The lakrits lös is one of my top favorites though, and the Phantom line is great bang/buck snus, though it doesn't have the salt levels I enjoy from Swedish snus.

For regular strength los the pickings are currently slim......Phantom Brown and Blue are the best options out there IMO.....especially since I hate smoke flavoring in my snus.

For extra sterk.....which I personally microprilla and get almost 75 rillas out of each tin....thunder original gives me that more traditional citrusy taste and Odens extreme is like nothing I have ever encountered in the snus world....and I like it a lot. I have high expectations for the new Kanel.....and it being made with real cinnamon extract means I can use it without fear of an adverse reaction.....and based on the current GN offerings it will be delicious quality. I even like the 69 portion....and I blindly hate the everlovingshit out of white portions.

Nothing will take the place of Gotlands los.....but I just put an addition on my "snus love house" in my heart for v2 and GN....with a minibar and a pool with a view of the beach.

There is great hope for the future of los....but what was will be looked upon fondly, never forgotten......and occasionally cried over in the wee hours over the internet.

                  Dear Lx,

Thank you for your interest in Jakobsson's Snus.

Unfortunately, our crack team of market prognosticators (made up of 16 year old Canadian Girls) says you are wrong

Please be sure to try our Strawberry and Cream white portions..............our test group loved them and said they were the perfect snus for watching icarly.

                    HERE IS THE TEST

the ONE test and the ONLY test

Are you making the snus that you want to use

                    or

Are you making the snus that somebody told you that somebody else wants to use

Chose A and you will thrive

Chose B and you will accomplish mediocrity

                      1,000 times this!

There's room for Guinness in a Coors Light world. The people will come around. When I started drinking Guinness, nobody drank Guinness. You could only find it in the highest end bars. Now, you can find it in every podunk establishment that carries more than 2 brews. Guinness didn't change. The people got some taste. It might not sell as well as Coors Light as far as raw numbers go, but it commands a respect Coors will NEVER have....
