According to the newspaper Politiken, The EU (in person of John Dalli) currently wants to stop the sale of løssnus in Denmark by the use of juristic tricks (similar to what took place in Finland in March). John Dalli takes the view that the exemption from the snus-ban for traditional products in the single national markets (as in the 1992 tobacco directive) has already been nullified with the 2001 directive. Obviously Danish politicians from all political wings try to prevent this nonsense.

I hope the best for our Danish friends and I also hope that this is not a bad sign regarding the anticipated lift of the EU-snus-ban in 2012. Hopefully John Dalli stands alone in the EU-commission and is only once more fighting his private fight against smokeless tobacco. I really wonder what went wrong in John Dalli's childhood that he now pursues this lunatic health policy.
Cheers!
