I may be wrong, but I think that cope black was a "test market" for the whiskey blend. Who knows.

SKOAL fine cut is not really a representative example of an American Wintergreen snuff. It is more harsh than most.

SKOAL long cut, Kodiak, or Grizzly long cut wintergreen taste a lot better.

I'd say anything from the Cope range. As stated in my 'review' I find the Whiskey Blend Long Cut to be very nice and smooth. I actually wish there was a snus that tasted like this one ...

Grizzly is definitely also a possibility if you like the dark, leathery taste of Cope - and it's much cheaper.

But I'm a complete noob when it comes to US smokeless ...

I used to dip Copenhagen Snuff (fine cut) as my usual dip, and Skoal Peach when I felt like dancing naked under rainbows. Used Grizzly Snuff once it came out (not too long ago)

Should be able to get some of that Redman finecut natural - 3 free cans on their website. Then there are Wolfpacks natural. Those are like 99cents a can. I like the wolfpacks natural. Redman, Timberwolf and Longhorn are the three Swedish Match dips. I think the are in that order as far as premium goes but not sure. I guess Longhorn is the cheapest. Timberwolf is considered very good and Redman is their Premium. After all, it has a metal lid on the can.

I was surprised that Kodiak was not a part of your US tobacco experience. In my experience, the US stuff will knock your socks off, even with the spitting. I actually prefer the regular cut since it rinses out nicely. I think the less experienced user will tend to go to the long cut because it stays together better. Some of my friends felt that the snus delivered more nicotine. I don't think so, maybe after a half an hour because snus last much longer and people tend to gut the juices.. I think the initial hit is much stronger with US dip but fades fast. Your opinion on this?

If I am going to dip I will buy a can of Longhorn wintergreen regular cut for $1 to $1.50 a can. Skoal costs way too much for $5 a can.

I am dipping longcut redseal wintergreen right now. I had some at lunch and it was still going an hour and forty five minutes later. It was a decent size dip, that might have something to do with it. I really like the redseal. I also have a can of finecut, unopened.. wintergreen. Skoal here in TN is like 5 or 6 for two cans. Single cans don't give you the two dollars off.

As stated before; I don't think there's a big difference in the actual nicotine content in US and Swedish smokeless. I totally agree on your experiences with the initial hit from US stuff ... it simply feels a hell of a lot more powerful, but tends to fade away quickly. With snus it seems to be released slower (but still with an initial kick to it, as we know). I think it comes down to different pH values.

Man, $1 for a can of tobacco ... that's like 4,5 Danish Kroner! That's almost ridiculous

Okay, today I’ve tried two more; Skoal Cherry Long Cut and Skoal Mint Bandits. I’ll just give a quick ‘review’ starting with the Skoal Cherry.

First, the smell … well, like the Original Skoal it has a certain note that I don’t like (reminding me of toilet cleaner!), but the rather artificial cherry aroma do a pretty good job covering it. Second, the texture is nice, more juicy than the Cope Whisky Blend and therefore pretty easy to deal with.
It burns pretty much, even when I use it in my upper snus hardened lip … reminds me of the first weeks of snusing. The taste is way better than the Original one … I can easily taste the ‘cherry’ and even though it’s pretty damn artificial and candy-like I kind a like it. It could be much worse. But with that said – when it comes to fruit or berry flavoured smokeless I still prefer it to be more subtle. Like the excellent Skruf Tranbär or GR #2.

Now, the Skoal Mint Bandits … what can I say … the pouches are simply ugly! Even original snus portions seem beautiful and tasty compared to these weird looking ‘diapers’.
I’ve used a couple of them tonight (upper lip), and can honestly say that I don’t like them. But then again, I’ve never been a fan of mint/menthol/peppermint in tobacco – when I was a smoker I hated menthol cigarettes to put it mildly. I guess they’d be alright for people who dig that kind of stuff. I can see myself finishing these …
One thing I’ve got to give them; even though I find the pouches disgusting, they’re pretty soft and easy on the gums. That’s a tiny plus. But otherwise: YUCK!

Only one left is Skoal Vanilla Blend Long Cut. I think I’ll try it tomorrow … my senses are sort of busted by now.

Interesting how different Cope and Skoal are coming from the same manufacturer. The cope flavors (whiskey, straight, and smooth hickory) are actually new within the past year. Skoal has always been the king of flavored dip. I quite enjoy the peach and apple varieties. Think i'l stop at the store and get a can of vanilla blend tomorrow on the way to work. I have never tried that one and you have sparked an interest now that you mentioned it.

I personally didnt like the cherry, berry or citrus blends. they had way too strong a chemical taste for me. The peach and apple remind me of jolly ranchers and have next to no chemical taste to them.

Apple sounds interesting ... is it like a sour apple taste? I've always been a sucker for apple flavoured candy - even if it was super artificial. I can imagine that it would do well with tobacco.

Now I'm actually starting to look forward to the Vanilla Blend. Maybe I should ... yes, what the heck ... I'm gonna open it now

                          EDIT:

Wow, it almost smells like the vanilla pudding my grandmother used to make! How strange. But it goes well with tobacco, that's for sure. I actually like this one, too. I think I'm gonna do an experiment one of these days - I'll try to mix it with the Cherry. I have a good feeling about that ......

Thanks! Even though I'm getting more and more thankful for snus it's still very interesting to try this US stuff ...

LOL! I'm sick of the Danish women ... most of them are just long haired brutes. You can have 'em all! I'll ship 'em your way ASAP.

The ones from the Faroe Islands (and from Iceland) on the other hand - yup! My fiancee is German though
