What is the "snus pocket" in your gums? Is it permanent?

I have been pretty much chain snusing for about 3 weeks now. Today I finally felt around my gums and I noticed a "dent" or "pocket" in my gums under my upper lip where I normally put my snus. It startled me so much that I've decided to quit snus cold turkey. Is this "pocket" permanent? Am I in danger of serious oral health consequences? I'm only 20 and this has me seriously worried. I've never had oral health problems in the past. Any responses would be greatly appreciated. Thank you guys.

I wouldnt worry about it. A dent in your gums isnt bad. You dont have to worry about cancer or your teeth falling out unless your using a really sweet snus. Im 21 and i have been snusing for about 1 yr. And i do have a snus dent on my upper gums. Its normal. I hope. Lol.

That's the beauty of using snus! After a while, portions and prillas of los will be invisible from the outside. Here is a page with some information you're probably interested in:

Froofather's right. Snus will affect your mouth, but I'd consider it suboptimal, rather than injurious. It's nothing to be terribly concerned about, but if you don't want your mouth to change, you'll need to quit snus.

I used to have a pouch in my lower lip along the side where I used to dip, it's pretty much gone now, and I really don't know how long it takes to go away. If you have thin gums or poor oral health it's probably best to not use oral tobacco.

Thats kind of cool! Now you don't have to worry about your snus sliding around.

I used dip for 25+ years and switched to snus because of how much easier it is on the gums and because of its relative neutral impact on oral health.

I can tell you that while on snus my gums have actually healed from years of being ripped up by dip.

In fact, I would say that your oral health will be better using snus than it would be chewing gum or sucking on candy to help you quit snus.

That said, every body is different and if you have a history of oral issues (week or excessively receding gum lines...etc...) you will want to be careful with anything you do.

But if it is just a pouch (due to stretching) I would not worry much about it............the gums are very malleable(think about that tribe that puts clay rings in their lips and ears to stretch them way out............it's not cancer...................it's funky lip yoga).

              Your gums will stretch.................

if that is all that it is......... then that's all that it is
When it's my time to go, I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my uncle did....... Not screaming in terror like his passengers

It stretches and it happens.. Personally I don't mind - After making somewhat large prillas my "pocket" has gotten quite big and now you can't tell when I have pouches in.

My snus pocket is full at the moment

Only negative affect I've noticed after a year of snusing is a little gum loss around my teeth. But who needs it anyway.

My husband has a pocket not on his gums but inside of his cheek from 15 years of dip. He had biopsy done came back benign hyperplasia and inflammation. He stopped for a few months but now he is snusing. Any of you guys who dipped previously have you had any issue with snus and it irritation your previous dip pouches. What has your dentist said about your transition from dip to snus? Thanks.

Kkingery83, do you want the good news? or only the bad news?

It would seem to me that you are going to keep asking and searching until you get the bad news you want to try and force your husband to stop using snus as well..... Many here have told you that snus is safe, But you seem to want to keep looking for it to be unsafe...

Not trying to be rude! But it is what it is....

I am not looking for bad news about snus. I just want to know if snus will cause any issues to an already existing lession from dip. Thats all i want to know and so far no one has answered this question for me.

Probably because we can't tell you for certain. Nothing is so definite. He can either quit tobacco altogether which he may or may not want to do... or, go for the safer tobacco option in Swedish snus.

That's why I am asking you all. I have noticed In the threads there are quite a few dippers who have switched to snus who have pockets in there mouth and I was wandering if they have any problems with the transition.
