    Portions vs. Lös thoughts

New here so if any of this has been discussed, I apologize and please delete. Some reoccurring themes I keep reading:
    1) The taste of a lös version is often preferred over it's portion equal, but the convenience card plays trump.
    2) Industry claims increased demand for portion snus, thus many once popular lös versions are now slowly disappearing.
    3) New snusers tend to lean toward flavored portions whereas lös and it's traditions are often praised by experienced snusers.
    4) Posters regularly singing the praises and pining for a now dormant snus recipe.(I, myself, can't stop thinking about what Gotlands yellow lös would taste like.)
    5) Peoples taste change.
I'd certainly hope we don't permanently lose all those once popular industry standards while waiting for our tastes to mature. Sounds like future generations would certainly miss out.
PP- I hope I'm not too deep here.

This post is intended to get members views on current industry direction in relation to product choice.

Most people who start try everything first and more often than not go for flavours (my perception). Then as their tastes go through rapid changes they eventually settle after a few years on a standard tobacco flavour (generally).
As for the los portion debate, I do believe that most people use portions for convenience. Others like myself just don't get on with los. But, I would probably agree that more experienced users buy los.

There's quite a few hardcore los supporters on the site, so this age old debate is gonna hot up again.

Los wins on both flavor and economy. I get the impression that many of use both, los at home or in the car, and portions in public/work.

Personally, the flavor of General Los trumps General White Portions. Unfortunately, life happens and the ease of use with portions comes into play. If smokeless tobacco was allowed at my place of employment and college, I would use los exclusively -- maybe not, since most of my family member frown upon the use of tobacco in all forms. Nevertheless, I will likely stick with portions until the day I die, since they're more discreet and easier to use. With that said, there is nothing more pleasurable than a large hillbilly pinch of los and a cold beer on a warm summer's day.

Portions are very convenient and I use them much
but to take the time for a prilla and relax seems the most enjoyable to me.

            Loose is Great

Maybe it's all the fuss about handbaking that makes the loose seem difficult to a new snuser? Or the investment in an Icetool? I tried and tried to handbake and never got the hang of it, ordered a PrisMaster, and I am so glad I did. Not that I use the PrisMaster at all these days - the device just helped me realize I don't like compact snus. Instead I pinch off a bit and throw it under my lip (it lasts about an hour). My point is, loose, at least for my personal taste, isn't that difficult to use.

I can see how, if you work in an office or something, you might not want tobacco crumbling in your mouth and draining down your teeth. But loose is, to my palate, far more flavorful and more potent as well when I use a giant pinch of it. Honestly, people who say loose has less flavor ought to try just pinching some General Los instead of forming it into a compact piece, then compare it to a regular General portion. They'd be amazed by the loose.

I wonder why loose isn't more popular than it is? In America, snus users must be made up primarily of ex smokers, because people who dip, at least the ones I know, usually prefer loose to the now-readily-available tea-bagged chew.

I use both. Portions for work. A los when im driving home. Usually onyx or rape no 2 at work. Original portion or los at home. Depending on my mood. I use portions more it seems. Roda lackett is my favorite los. Really easy to hand bake and tastes amazing.

Loose snus is amazing!!! I prefer to call it Lös, but dosent matter.. It is all the same.
Lössnus is more versatile than portions. You can roll them as small or big as you want. Sometimes you may need a big one.. On average you can make them smaller or switch it up.
A loose snus also has a much better taste, better mouth feel and lasts a long time when you can roll it into good cylinder.

Portions are more convienient and socialy acceptable- discreet.. So for this reason I always keep some white portions.

I've heard the stories of these hardcorers.........legends of snus (as the old timers called them)

Portions for when I'm on the move and los when I have time to really enjoy the kick like when I'm home or driving.

In my opinion the only way to know who is hardcore is that they take some los snus to their hand pop in their mouth and bake it with their tongue and place it under the lip.
No Icetools or hand baking with these guys Takes some practice not to swallow the snus

Great post. I can relate to all your points. Thus the concern for perceived industry direction.
