Snus not helping too much to quit smoking?

So I've been wanting to quit for the summer (I'm a college student with parents who don't approve of my smoking very much, I've gotten in many arguments and had ashtrays thrown at me.) and I'm a camp counselor for weeklong sessions, one of which begins on Sunday, where I can't smoke.

I decided to try Camel Snus (I'm in the US and don't really want to have to order Snus to my house, I'll probably try Swedish stuff when I'm back at school) and I'm not sure but I don't feel as if it's getting rid of my cravings. I've had a pouch in my lip for about 45 minutes and it still has flavor but I've been thinking about having a cigarette since I put it in and it hasn't gone down.

Just wondering if I should be trying two pouches instead of one, or what? It's expensive, and I'd rather not have to spend so much on Snus. Also, is there any other good non-refrigerator Snus you can buy here in the states?

    Thanks!

Try a strong portion like Nick and Johnny or Skruf. You would have to order those most likely. The extra nicotine helps a lot. Just getting over the act of smoking can be rough also. Keep to it though, better health, more energy, and a fatter wallet await you.

Well, a fatter wallet isn't happening with the cost of Camel Snus :P But doing 2 pouches instead of 1 would probably help, then?

Doubling up on portions make sense. I've never had camel snus (not available) and have no clue what the nicotine content is. The strong portions I suggested have a around 12mg and your typical portion will have around 8. Order from buysnus.com Much cheaper and the Swedish stuff is the only way to go.

I think the nicotine level of the Camel snus must be pretty low, that is what I started with and I almost always had to use two portions to feel satisfied. Never had that problem with the real stuff, occasionally do two if I'm stressed and don't have a strong portion handy or loose available.

I've discovered snus through the Camel version which is originally used to bridge time at work between cigarettes. But, unlike the Swedish stuff it did not really help very much and sometimes it actually felt like it increased the cravings. So either nicotine content is indeed really low, or the rumors about the evil American tobacco companies putting craving enhancers in their products are true. Either way, I suggest getting the real stuff and keeping the rest of the Camel you may have for times when it is not worth using a real portion.

I found a store in my area that sells the Swedish Match US selection (General original portion, General white wintergreen, Catch dry mini peppermint and I believe General loose), though they do so at about $7 a can, it is an - expensive - alternative to ordering online if you can't/don't want to do that. I suggest checking their store locator (http://swedishsnus.com/US/storelocator.asp) to see if there are any stores close to you.

Methinks the nicotine content is indeed low in the Camel product. I actually picked up a pack today for re-evaluation, I tried it a few months ago. For starters it tasted like diet iced tea and doesn't have the salty tobacco nuances I love with the imported ones. Even with two pouches I still didn't get a nicotine fix. Not only that but the stuff is way more expensive than the real stuff I get from buysnus.com. Thankfully my order of Skruff, Granit, and Gotlandssnus arrived in the mail today.

well if you want a nic fix, you could go to the local gas station and get some natural wolfpacks. Those will give you a fix while you are waiting for a load of snus from sweden.

Yeah, get yourself some traditional stuff (made in the U.S or made in Sweden or any other country that still produces smokeless tobacco), but not this crap made by a cigarette manufacturer. After all I know (since it's unavailable in Germany), Camel "snus" is just dry cigarette-tobacco, put in a pouch. This simply cannot work, nicotine-wise.

To make it shorter: Camel "snus" is just NO snus. Try the real deal, you won't regret it!

                    Cheers!

Shamash, there's a transition period from cigarettes to snus for some people. I tried unsuccessfully two years ago to quit cigarettes by using snus. I did Nick & Johnny or Skruf Cranberry all day. Nothing. There's no instant gratification with snus -- and that's what's missing for you as a smoker. But you'll come around to the steady-state pleasure that snus brings. It's a different feeling. No cravings. Nice feeling all day.

I'm not nearly as hard core as others here on sweet snus. There's just no such thing as "too sweet" for me. I liked Camel and even Marlboro as far as taste went. But they had no nic kick at all. Very weak. It's as if they are designed to appeal to non-users of tobacco. That's sad.

If you like sweet, as I do, buy some CatchDry Peppermint at a local tobacco shop and use it non-stop. If you find you don't like the salty-bitter taste of traditional snus, go with Wise's tasteless "wine and chef" snus. Whatever they do to it, it kicks like a mule to the gut. If you want an American brand that is quite good, try Lucky Strike dry portions (you'll have to order it from Sweden, however).

Quitting smoking is alot more than just switching your tobacco product. Breate in deep, exhale slow.. do this for a few minutes a day while you have a portion in and are craving a cigarette.. the nicotine hit is alot of the reason smokers smoke, but youll be suprized at how much just breathing deep will sooth you as well.

We all went through the initial stage of doubt, us who went from smoking to snussing. It will work itsself out.

I must agree again about the Njette products Wise 6mg and Vin & Kocksnus 6mg. They are clean, nic heavy and once they come out with a tobacco flavored Wise product, I will be in ultimate heaven. They can help curb the cig cravings. Did for me.

I was a very heavy smoker up until 8 days ago when I finally quit using snus. I've been using the real Swedish thing ever since and I am in LOVE with it. I'm amazed at how easy it's been so far, and I am not missing my two pack a day habit either. But seriously, I think you really ought to ditch the Camel. To me it tasted very artificial and much too sweet, I prefer the saltiness of the real deal.
