    Prismaster portions

I use it for the Los snus I can buy here locally. That would be general and ettan. I have tried a few of the portion snus that are available here but I am not really into any of them. I've tried general white, jakobsen wintergreen, and ettan. They are convenient but I think they juice up a little too much and are a little rough on my gums. Anyways after a while away from snus I bought a roll of general and have been using a prismaster. My portions usually last about an hOur. I think thePrismaster kind of sucks it's a bulky piece of plastic. It serves it's purpose and I can live with it but what about the icetool? I want one but don't see why they are uPwards of 40 dollars. My local B&M carries them now should I invest?

If you plan on doing los for any length of time there is nothing as good as an icetool. I also started with a prismaster but finally ordered an icetool and I'm very glad I did. There is no comparison. For around the cost of a roll of premium snus it is a more than worth it investment to me as I plan on using it for years. Granted, the price in a shop for one may be a bit more than online. Have still kept the prismaster around just in case I lose the icetool but the pm is no longer used.

I agree. If you like los it is worth the investment. I will sometimes hand bake but mainly I use the icetool. It sounds like you can get it locally for the price of internet shopping and no shipping....I wish I had that option!

From my own experience with a PrisMaster and IceTool, I actually prefer the former. The IceTool creates prillas that are cylindrical, which results in the tobacco breaking in half. An important technique I learned for a PrisMaster: insert the tobacco VERTICALLY into your mouth (have the PrisMaster pointing up and down when inserting snus). The snus forms to the contours of your mouth better; it's like having a nice pinch of snus in your mouth.

I have handbaked a couple times with little success. Are there any tips that will make a prismaster prisxlast longer than 35-45 minutes? Seems like the portions I get are really sloppy and about 30 minutes into it they are falling apart.

I have been using a ghetto tool for a long time now and it works great. Just cut the end off of a 3ML syringe and you have it. Try to find a syringe without a rubber o ring as a seal and you will save yourself some grief. As far as handbaking, it really depends on the snus. I can handbake Pioneer without any effort and it easily forms into a ball. Other snus, like Gellivare is a bit more challenging and I don't even attempt it. I think somebody on this forum compared handbaking Gellivare to trying to herd cats which is about right IMO. General takes more effort than Pioneer but is still fairly easy. The harder you pack, the longer it will last.

I have a dream.. That one day all tobacco stores will carry Ettan los, yes I have a dream that I can walk into a cigar shop and pick up an icetool if I feel the need.

I love my prismaster. The trick to making it not mud slide so quick is the pack the heck out of it. I usually have a small flat head screwdriver nearby that I push against the plunger and have a finger over the snus end. And yes vertical insertion is key...don't waste your money on a hyped up ice tool.

I also like to pack and form my prilla into a boxed rectangle shape after using the prismaster.

I've used this comparison here in the past: The Prismaster is to the Icetool what the Bic lighter is to the Zippo.

The Zippo is a wonderful lighter, well-made, very pretty, and can even be a collector's item. But at the end of the day, the Bic lights your smoke almost as well.

If at some point you find you can spend the money on an Icetool, you definitely will not be sorry. But in the meantime, the Prismaster will do the trick.

Word to the wise for anyone considering an icetool: don't take anti-icetool advice from someone who has never used an icetool If you were trying to decide whether to take a cheap vacation to a beach in Southern California, or spend more money on a trip to Hawaii, it would help to talk to someone who has been to both Southern California and Hawaii, right? Or what if someone assured you that you don't need to ever try a grilled ribeye or a roasted prime rib to know that a boiled chuck fillet is just as good? Comparison is key to any consumer decision.
