Preemptively enlisting gets you a better choice of units that can keep you alive, instead of plain old infantry :^P

I /think/ you just get a bill for taxes due, but that can be a pretty large chunk at once. The government has 7 years to collect taxes. 7 years of snus purchases would be quite the bill.

In other words, is it your expectation that in addition to the unpaid taxes, they would attempt to collect a penalty as well? That is not my understanding, but please do share with me yours. If one expects the possibility that the government will attempt to collect only the unpaid taxes at a later date, and not further penalize you with some fees... please tell me why you are not simply waiting to see if paying becomes necessary, since you would be paying the same amount later if called upon than you do voluntarily each time you order.

I personally believe paying later could cause many unknown issues including miscalculation of taxes, penalties, interest, unwanted attention.

Agreed. That's why I do it (pay taxes up front). I don't want to get a 12k tax bill including penalties and interest when I could just pay it when I order. The tax amount isn't going to go away or go down, if I can't afford the tax now per order, what are the chances I will be able to afford a lump sum down the road. Just not worth it to me to take the chance.

Guys....I spend alot (too much)of time speaking with people in the various departments of revenue, every week. I assure you, that if there is an opportunity for them to collect taxes from you, they will collect them. Also, if they are late...there will be penalties due. Very few of these states are pro tobacco, and there will indeed be a reckoning for these taxes that haven't been paid. In my opinion, these "other" sites will end up following the same laws we follow online. When this will happen is anyone's guess, but when it happens....and they go to register with the state, each state will "dig" a little and will find customer databases. Which MAY kick off the tax bill frenzy to consumer's mailboxes....who knows.

Northerner's stance on this has and always will be, that it's better to be safe now than sorry later. We don't want any of our customer's to ever be liable for a tax bill in his/her state. This is why I have a head full of grey hair, lol....staying on top of all the compliance issues is very time consuming for me. However, it's worth it to me/us...as long as we can continue to provide this level of protection for our customers.

@Stubby....I've had our attorneys speak with Wisconsin concerning this. It's the real deal, and that's why we stopped. I will get with our distributor and see if we can get into Tobacco Outlet you spoke of. Thanks for the heads up.

I call upon each and every participant in this thread, regardless of future snus use or participation on this forum, to come back in 2 to 7 years and provide a personal report. It would be interesting to see if any/every non-payer gets nailed.

                  Awesome!

I will be on a business trip next week and will be going to a shop you supply in Springfield, MO. I plan on picking up some snus I haven't tried yet.

With shipping cost and tax concerns if I could get my favorites locally I would shop locally 90% of the time.

There have been a few cases already of tobacco tax collections but it does not sound like they are really putting too much effort into it. What about the even higher numbers of smokers who purchased tax free tobacco??

You would think they would of already starting the data-mine on those folks but I dont think it will ever be a great effort.

Stopping international sales seems most likely with more stringency. Kinda like what the USSR did with checking everyone's mail for contraband and then upon finding throwing you in the GULAG.

Placed my first order with Snuson yesterday and the taxes for Wisconsin (home) were around $48. I then changed my address to my Illinois work address and taxes were $8. For the $40 savings it will be worth taking a little grief if they say something about having it shipped to work.
