    Addictive

Snus has to be some of the most addictive tobacco out there.

Some weeks after i started using snus i made a deal with myself that i should only use 5 portions a day. Some days i used 4 and some days 6 but nevermind.

So now, about 3-4 months of snusing, i think i use around 8-10 portions a day. maybe higher. Lets say today, i have been awake for 5 hours and used 3 portions. I always try to keep a long time between each portion but i just cant because I really want one.

So should I take a step up to some stronger snus? In the category of 10-14mg? Always used 8-9mg. Also have tried 2-3 cans of stronger snus when i first began.

I dont wanna go Extra strong but just the Strong category.

Then ill maybe not use so much as i would with regular portion. I can get more flavours and Long portions which often only is strong snuses.

Why are you concerned with the quantity? Using stronger snus will get you more addicted, and you'll use 8-10 portions of that after awhile. Strong snus is a little harder on your mouth, but I don't know how much so.

Talk to some Swedes. I think you'll be surprised at how little you're actually using.

Yes, snus is really addictive. Could be why the Swedish word for it is so damn long? (beroendeframkallande)

Like LX says, you'll eventually use the same amount if you move to strong. If your only concern is how many portions you're using, I'd stick with the regular strength. It's true that some flavors only come in strong portions but that's also true of regular portions. I think there's actually more in that case...

I usually pound through a can of Extreme los in about 3.5 days. I would say 7-8 2-click pris per day. I get plenty of nicotine.

I wouldn't really worry about your usage as long as you aren't seeing negative side effects like gum irritation/recession.

Maybe you should try keeping them in longer? That could cut down on how many you use and lower how much nicotine you get. I almost have snus in the entire day, but it stays there for 2+ hours, so I can't manage more than 6-8 portions a day.

                  Thanks for all the advices

Im worried a bit because of a little yellow/white cirkle i got in right upperside where I keep my snus. It is not in the left side where i also keep it. Telling my dentist at next check but probably nothing special.

As for snus, i have planned to stay with the regular 8mg and buy some strongs to use 2-3 times a day. (after dinners etc.)

The reason for this is that i've started to crave another portion 20-30mins after I have taken last one out(with regulars 8-9mg) So i just thought it would take longer than 20-30 mins when using strongs.

You can keep a protion in for 2 hours but that doesn't mean your getting the same amount of nicotine as when you started. So naturally the longer you keep one in the sooner your going to want one after you spit it out. I keep loose in for about 30mins and get another one in 45mins to an hour. I save my portions for work and church where I don't know how long ill have to keep it in.

Personally, I believe that snus is a HELL of a lot less addictive than either cigarettes or chew/dip. With cigarette withdrawals, I absolutely could not go a SINGLE ****ing hour without having a cancer stick before I felt like I was going into panic attack mode.

When I dipped Copenhagen for many months after I initially quit smoking, I decided I wanted to quit, with snus. For almost a MONTH it felt like my lower lip actually craved the stuff, almost an odd tingly feeling that would not go away until I stuck a dip in. It finally went away as I kept snusing.

With snus I do not orally crave it and my lip does not feel odd when I go extended amounts of time without it. I can go 6 hours without a snus before I actually crave it (except when I first wake up in the morning). I use about 8 to 10 regular portions a day, the cravings are NOWHERE near what I experienced with dip and cigs.

What he says! Cigarette withdrawal is far more painful.

Snus is so easy to use though...that's got to be accounted for. It's discretion allows for usage virtually anywhere. I also remember reading somewhere on this site that most Swedes use their snus for a much shorter time that we Americans do. Most wouldn't use the snus for an hour. True the nic is probably all leached out before an hour but the fact that we use it that long probably has more to do with our oral fixation or psychological addiction to the product...which is supported by it's low harm potential.

Thinking back on cigarettes, chew, and dip I always thought that I shouldn't be doing it and I knew in the back of my head I'd have to quit the stuff eventually or a doctor would tell me to at some point. Snus doesn't conjur that feeling for me and because of that I think the addiction potential of it is very high.

There's a stigma with smoking and dip in the US. Non tobacco users here equate snus with dip but everyone that took notice of me placing a portion was impressed with the clean usage of tobacco and marveled at the fact that I had one in for the hour before that. Ha. Yeah, I'm hopelessly hooked right now.

I suppose there is the potential that a doctor would recommend ceasing usage for blood pressure reasons as I get older. We'll see...
