    Lös is a better experience

    Hi guys,

I have been back on snus now for a month and a half, after switching between smoking and nrt (and nothing for a few brief periods) and have had time to get back into the swing. I had a couple of cans of lös kicking around in my fridge and last week I opened one and now I'm enjoying it much more than portions. It's the feeling I think, a lovely silky smooth feeling under the lip, the portions give much more of a rough feeling. Plus I feel more in touch with the 'raw material' and can bake a fat prilla and really feel that bulge (that might sound silly). I will still use portions, I can't lös at work or out and about, but I'll be buying less for most of the time. The 'roll-your-own' element of lösing is cool too, when I was a smoker I used rolling tobacco, I preferred to 'have something to create' and that's what I get out of lös now.

To anyone new to snus, i definitely think that you should try loose, it's a qualitatively different experience to portions. I want to thank friends both old and new at Snuson for encouragement and info on snus and hope I can now stick to this

As a recent convert to the los cause, I'm pretty much with you on all of this.

The other good thing about los is flexible pris sizes mean you can have a stronger or weaker "dose" if required.

Absolutely. I haven't tried an extra sterk lös yet but it's just a matter of time. With 8mg/g I can enjoy a nice size pris and not worry about getting too much nic. I've got icetools coming tomorrow too, more fun!

The downside with lös at least for me is that the snus gets dry and loses taste after some days. The only solution there is to snus more though, lol. But lös rocks!

Not all loose is smooth. If I snus general for a day or two straight my lips get raw. So I throw in some portions. Generals ports are the softest.

totally with you guys on this one. love some los. cheaper too. more in a can.

thing is, portions are best for work. less conspicuous. no mess. no fuss.

anyhow, glad you're into it vulpes. i'd recommend the skruf los if you can get some. the es is my fave.

What about Jakobssons? No lös yet!? I would like to try Jakobssons Wintergreen lös or icefruit lös.
The makers are all chasing the $, and the $ is in portions. Of course it's kind of self selecting. They don't make lös, so people don't buy lös. New users almost invariably gravitate towards portions. They're easier, and more aesthetically pleasing for people who have been told tobacco is bad their whole lives. Tobacco aficionados will almost invariably gravitate towards lös. Some still use portions out of convenience, or to avoid social persecution, but it's usually an unpleasant diversion from what they really want.

Gotlandssnus makes the finest lössnus on the market, but most of it is unavailable. The only one left is the Grå. The Fläder has VERY limited release in Sweden last I heard, and the plain was made as a tech demo. For a tech demo, it was unbelievably good, and would stand up against any other lössnus made. The Gul was sublime. The best bergamot snus made.

I don't think the Jakobssons name should be used for lössnus. They've positioned that as a portion product aimed at the American market. Making a lössnus under that banner could introduce confusion, and possibly conflate it with dip in the uneducated American minds.

I /do/ think they should release lös under the Gotlandssnus name, and position it as a premium product. Wintergreen or IceFruit? Not for me tbh. IceFruit I think works best as a portion, and I hate wintergreen :^D I envision the Gotlandssnus lös as premium, traditional product. Snus the way it's meant to be. Not so much for weird flavors and stuff.

They could come out with a third name to release the weird stuff for the American dip market, but I don't know how well that would sell. Dippers seem to stick with dip for the most part, and American taste buds are shot. Any dip I would be proud of wouldn't sell well to American dippers I don't think. Also, snus needs to maintain absolute separation from dip in the American market. There's too much of a stigma surrounding dip to allow them to be associated. I'd create completely new company, and not put Gotlandssnus anywhere on the label.

It's too bad that oral tobacco has such a bad reputation here in the USA. My friends can't believe I use dip. I don't use dip, I use loose snus, but they can't tell the difference. Oral tobacco is oral tobacco to them. My snuff use just makes me weird .

And I'm gonna rant for a minute. It's seriously messed up that I have to order my snuff from Europe but I can walk a block to the local bar and probably score meth in an hour. The government can't keep dangerous drugs out of our towns (I live in a small Kansas town), but it has been successful at making snuff unavailable in this country to me. My snus has so many warning labels on it I often can't even tell what brand it is (it's a good thing Oden's Extreme Los has such a distinctive can), but I have actually had the police sit and watch me smoking a pipe on my porch. As if a middle aged man can't smoke a pipe. They (and to me, the government is a "they" - I don't feel they represent me) can't win the war on drugs so they've declared war on tobacco. The public goes along with it just because cigarettes smell bad. If cigarettes smelled like roses, we wouldn't have all these tobacco-free zones.

Rant over. Thanks for letting me vent.
