What is the best selling Snus and what are the 5 most popular flavours?

I believe it's General, but why is it at the top? Is it due to having one of the best distributors in the world or is the quality and flavour of the Snus itself? If you were a new producer what 5 flavours would you bring to market and why?

I think most of you will have figured out why we are asking these questions and yes we want to bring out a Toque range of Snus.

    Thanks for all your help.

First off, I'd like to see you offer a snus kit. Where you buy the raw materials, and cook it up yourself. That would be especially beneficial to you Brits since it's only nasal snuff until the magic happens ;^)

General is at the top for a few reasons, monopoly being a big one. It's also classically flavored, and could be considered the SP of the snus world. I'll throw my 5 down here, but don't take it as necessarily good advice. I'm kind of a traditionalist, and I don't know that my tastes reflect the greater worldwide market.

      Bergamot a la General
      Plain a la Ettan, Pioneer
Juniper NOT like Göteborgs Rapé LIKE the old LD Blue where the juniper tasted like fresh branches rather than gin.
      Licorice
Coffee Not overpowering coffee. More like a plain that hints at coffee.

General is indeed the best selling snus, at least in Sweden. General means, what it says: a general snus, suited for most tastes. That's what it was marketed as when it first came out. I also think it's so famous because Swedish Match makes top quality products. The flavor in General is bergamot and a little citrus.

The 5 flavors I would choose:

        Straight-up Tobacco flavor
        Smoky flavor
        Citrus/Bergamot flavor
        Mint flavor
And maybe licorice... I don't like licorice flavored snus that much, but just a hint of it like in Nick & Johnny and General Extra Strong Portions are awesome.

Other flavor notes you can do is coffee, chocolate and berries (nothing overly sweet though, but I was thinking something that tastes a bit more foresty, if you know what I mean).

Why? Because these flavors dominate the market, except for the licorice maybe. You could go experimental and try out something new though. Question is what flavors there are that go good in snus that hasn't been tried out yet.

Great news about Toque snus by the way. I can't wait to try it out!

Menthol Clove with hints of citrus. I made up a home mix of some and it is tasty....but I am lazy......I'd rather buy it.

I will send you some if you want.

One other quick point, could you do the los in 50 gram cans, like Pioneer. Everybody is cutting the content and putting the price up

                Roderick,

It will depend whether you want to appeal to American or European tastes.

I myself am a big fan of Ettan so you could say I have European tastes but the sad reality is that if you want to reach an American audience you'll probably have a better chance of success going with a wintergreen or other flavored snus. That's why V2 hit with Thunder Frosted and you see Jakobsson with it's wintergreen and melon. If you're trying to reach the EU audience that was cut off from being able to order SWM products then you want to go with the more traditional flavors.

Have you considered using your top-selling flavors? (What would that look like?) That could be more interesting than another batch of clones.

The swedish match products are the top sellers

Definitely that explains the large production quantities.

Probably General and Skruf are the top of the list.

I would obviously have a reuglar tobacco like ettan,
                        A regular tobacco,citrus like general
I'm a snuser not a snuffer but I would order toque blueberry if it was available from nrotherners us warehouse because it sounds amazing
                        I would love a good coffee/vanilla
Then something exotic....not really sure but something that isn't on the market that would be good........a true sour apple.......a really strong wine taste? ranch/barbecue
The quality would of course have to be great. I'm willing to pay nearly 5 bucks a can for general or ettan as opposed to spending half for a can of rothbrix.

Also it would be great if you had the same flavors in different strengths......i wouldnt want to have to decide a strong snus with a flavor i dont like as much as a weaker one with a flavor i love.

                          Justintempler,

Very good point. We would be selling in the US and Sweden mainly plus the rest of the world. This is very interesting feedback, thanks guys.

You won't be able replicate a extremely refined recipe such as Ettan or General. Experienced snus makers have been trying for decades and failed miserably.

I strongly agree with this post. No offense to the people who said "something exactly like General/Ettan", but there is nothing redeeming about copying the top products. Focus on what you do best -- your amazing ability to blend natural and interesting flavors with tobacco. Toque Blueberry Snus, Toque Whiskey and Honey Snus, Toque Menthol Snus... these all sound very appealing, to me at least, and I am not even (for the most part) among the snuff-enthusiast crowd.

Also, many people on here seem to be into the idea of a straight vanilla snus. It doesn't sound good to me but my tastes are admittedly boring. I just like tobacco.
