at what point will you be priced out of snus?

Been thinking about this (and sorry if this has been discussed in the past)...as i make my 3 roll purchase from buysnus every other month, i see the price going up and up...without the discount every other order, it's $150 which hurts the wallet.
and buying from that site i believe doesn't have any state or fed taxes...figuring at some point the heros of the nanny state will stop this and tack on their vigorish which will probably up the price at least $10 a roll.
so, for me, when the price gets over $5 a can, i'm done with the shiat, back to grizz wintergreen...i love snus but it's starting to be not worth the cost.

Hard to say. I'd go as high $12 a tin, but I'd cut way back, and use more nasal snuff. Either that, or grow/make my own snus. It's getting to the point where there isn't much I like anymore. I use lös almost exclusively. SM snus isn't my favorite, and I can't use a lot due to the smoke flavoring. Once my stocked snus is gone, I'll have a handful of snuses to choose from. It's hardly worth it as is :^/

part of the problem is that i have to buy so much at one time, you really notice the price as opposed to a can from the store every few days...seems like i use more snus then i ever did dip (dipped for 20 yrs before finding snus), snusing a can every day more or less...as well, seems my snus pinch is a lot bigger than my dip pinch was, i wonder why that is...i thought i needed something stronger but i tried the gen sterk and it gives me a gnarly headache, same with skruf.
it would be nice just to quit tobacco all together, but it is my only vice and i cling to it...

Yea, $12 a tin assumes I'd be buying local, and it would be more of a treat thing. At those prices, I'd use less than 1 tin per week. $120 is a lot to come off of buying a roll at a time. If that was my only choice, I'd have to switch to snuff, and growing.

Probably around $10 per can. But then I would go to something cheaper or start making my own snus, and use nasal snuff instead. The price is worth it to keep from smoking IMO.

Snuff is becoming and hasI been a bigger part of my tobacco use....but I still love snus.

I'd switch to nasal snuff if the price of a snus can hits double digits. Unfortunately, nasal snuff isn't really my thing.

I've been growing, air curing, and vacuum sealing tobacco for a couple years now. Plus I have a decent stash of pipe tobacco. It's not that hard to make snus. And tobacco gets better with age. Also trying to put more nasal snuff into my daily usage. I'd probably go fairly high on snus price but keep my orders large and the timing right for price. Keeping a nice big frozen snus stash helps too. Most snus I use today is a couple years old and in awesome shape! Vacuum sealing and freezing ftw!

I am tired of seeing good brands get discontinued, inventories that are constantly depleted and new introductions consisting of some heavily flavored tobacco. I am also getting tired of seeing the tins grow smaller and smaller. Give me a good plain los in a 50 gram tin and I will be happy. Since PACT the selections seem to be getting worse as time goes by. Also, the supply chain now seems to get frazzled everytime a politician sneezes. Snus isn't getting old but the game of getting it is.

That's the truth. The whole thing just isn't fun anymore. It's like whole world is conspiring against me, and doing the exact opposite of what I'd like to see in snus. In a couple years, snus will probably come in mylar envelopes, with a single sweet, highly flavored mini portion inside for $5.

I haven't ordered in nearly 6 months per my normal schedule. Still have 15 cans but this thread made me check on price/availability and I am shocked at the state of snusdom. gonna place an order and only get reg strengths and minis and figure out a way to ween myself off..... Yeah it's gotten that bad and can only get worse....

Oh and BTW aren't you all glad that eric isn't incessantly posting inane BS for a day or two..... I am and applaud him for getting the "hint"

I mostly use loose snus now. When I first started using snus i only used portions and did not think i would ever use loose. Half the reason i forced myself to switch to loose was the cost. a can of portions cost the same as a can of loose. portions can weighed 24 g and the loose 50 g. Now many brands of loose are 40 g. The "discount" gap is closing.

I guess the "good news" is some portion brands are 22 g, 18 g and some even 14 g. So if i buy a can of loose with 40 g i am getting 2.8 times more than a can of portions that weigh 14 g.

In 2005 a gram of gen loose cost 0.0684
Today the same gram cost 0.0975

today a can has 45 g so 2005 price would have been $3.08
today the 45g can cost $4.39

+$1.82 Real increase

That's not counting taxes or shipping and we all know those have increased.

When I first started around 6 years ago, I could buy double what I can now, for almost the same money, maybe a few quid difference, but nothing much! As of now I’m starting to cut way back, and use more nasal snuff. My freezer stock is almost exclusively los, it’s just more cost effective. If/when the price of a can of snus hits double digits that’s me out the game i think, well, as a regular user i’m out the game. I think providing I can still get the stuff in the EU when it hits double digits, I’d always like to have some around for a treat, as for the usage at the point, maybe a can a month, two maximum!
