Rather than using the side of the can what I do is flip the lid upside down when I open it. I then take a healthy pinch out of the can and lift onto the overturned lid. I can then apply gentle pressure to the pinch to keep it together but not too tight. Pop it on the tongue and place in the upper lip. It flattens a bit once its in there if you haven't packed it too tightly and stays together well.

I went back to portions only for a few days to rest the gums. I'll try a looser pack next go.
Also, after using los for awhile you'll develop a pocket in your gums that will hold your prilla or portion (for that matter) much much easier...so just keep at it. It just takes practice and time.

It takes about 10 days for your lip to get used to los and relax around it. When that happens it stays together for ages. I prefer to smash it up a bit to get the flavour after about 20 minutes.

I'm using los for the first time (oden's extreme) and am having similar problems when it comes to holding the prilla together, I must say Oden's extreme is a great snus, now if only I can get the prillas to hold together it'd be an even nicer experience.Mind you when you have a load of loose los in, it hits nice and hard. Its not a problem when snusing at home but makes things a little difficult when out and about.

Is Odens extreme one of the more difficult ones to hand bake or is my technique just crap?

For me the only ones that held together well were Gotlands, Montecristo and Offroad. All the others do break up eventually.
I never use los if I'm in public and never will.

What I've been doing when at work etc is carefully tearing open a teabag and emptying it of its contents, then using some of the paper to make my own portions, it has a slightly bitter taste and I'm not sure if its the tea that gives it that but it works O.K. Not nearly as nice as a los prilla though.

Just popped a los prilla in without any crumbling, I seem to be getting the hang of it lol.

Odens is on the harder end of the scale. It doesn't stay together as well as many others. I'd say that keeping it together shouldn't be the goal, rather you want to keep it under control. My snus always separates, but I keep it under control. That comes with time, and you should be able to get it figured out after awhile of use. It isn't something that can really be taught, as there's a lot of subtleties that will vary by user. It has to be done by feel.

Well put Lx and so true. I especially like that part about keeping the pris under control rather than in some predetermined shape/state…………..

and yes……….there is no formula for using Los …………..rather it is a feel. There are certain tips and tricks that others have found that may help you but in the end you will need to adapt and adjust them to your own needs

Speaking of tips and tricks, you guys might want to check out the Dipper's Guide to Snus. It is about all things los and has a lot of good advice that folks have added over the years. You can find it here

I see your point, but I think the initial problem for many who are new to los is actually getting it into the mouth before it disintegrates. I've settled on the pyramid for now as I feel cylinders and balls are too difficult, well with Odens anyway. The pyramid formation is going in well now its a case of controlling it like you said, thanks for the tip.

I wouldn't go too far about the shape. I literally squeeze it about for a few seconds until it gets 'a' shape and push it under my lip with my tongue. I won't hesitate in messing around with it once it's in either.

Don't think about it too much. Sometimes los will crumble on you eventually and other times it won't.
