How do you measure nicotine content in snus?

I've thought about this a bit recently. How do you establish that a portion contains 4, 6, 8, 12, 14, 16 or 22 mg or nicotine? I've noticed some "strong" snus have less of a kick than some weaker snus, which I guess has to do with the snus PH level, but... yeah. How do you measure it?

The actual nicotine content of snus is measured in a lab using standardized chemical tests but you can line up a hundred different versions that claim to have say, 8mg of nic, and every one will have a slightly different delivery rate of that total due to differences in the snus's formula. On top of that people have a wide range of perception of nic delivery so, as you've personally noticed, the claimed ratings can often have little to do with the reality that different people experience. Considering all that it's fairly easy to understand why a given "strong" snus may seem no stronger than a given "regular" strength to a particular individual.

Snus and nicotine should be mesured in 50% Moisture. A high PH make a quiker reliease of the free nicotine and you may get a faster impact then of a snus with lower PH (A high PH also make your lip more sour, and you may get some problems with your stomick) but the amount of nicotine is still the same, it does not make any differences if it´s a high ph or not.

geeze people should accept more thing as is ....

you can't measure the content yourself, I bet the FDA makes sure the numbers are real before accepting a product on the market.......

Wow you have a lot more confidence in the FDA than anyone else on this forum that lives in the U.S. Whether or not they have actually measured nicotine content their judgement is so corrupted by political considerations and anti-tobacco zealotry that even if snus consisted of nicotine and plutonium they would scarcely be more reflexively hostile to it than they are now.

We have had a great experience with the FDA and thay help have been a lot of help to us on how to report everything to them. Yes it´s a shame that it´s ridiculous amount of papiers to fill in, but i still think it´s for the good.. maby they recognize that snus isn´t that harmful for you as the authorities in Sweden have done.
