    Swedish snus could be banned

I just read that EU is planning to ban some additives used in all Swedish snus. A spokesman for Swedish Match says "this would be the end".

Here is the article in Swedish. Maybe you can use Google translate.

    http://www.aftonbladet.se/nyheter/article14700177.ab

    This must be stopped.

Thanks for that Tom200. Here's the Google translate of the article for those of us that cannot speak Swedish :

"The EU Commission wants to ban flavor additives in tobacco.

Does the proposal through, it can be ready used snuff for one million people.

    - It would mean the end of Swedish snus, says MEP Christofer Fjellner.

Sweden promised an exemption from the ban on snus in the EU. But can a ban be on the road be infiltrated into the back door - by banning the essential elements of the content.

According to a consultation proposals for a new tobacco directive, which will shortly be presented by the European Commission's health directorate, is an enormous variety of flavors in tobacco ban.
    "Could be the end"

All Swedish snus contains any of the subjects.

    - This means the end of Swedish snus as we know it today. For us, it affects the entire portfolio - several flavors that have existed for over 200 years, says Patrik Hildingsson, communications director at Swedish Match, which produces brands such as General, Ettan, and Grov Gothenburg Rapé, accounting for 85 percent of Swedish snus market.

Hildingsson designates the proposal as "extremely serious".

    - Swedes can not understand how the EU can ban snuff at all. We have major concerns that you do not understand the question. Swedish government must get involved.

Earlier röktorkades tobacco in Swedish snus. But since research in the 1980s showed that it gave high levels of carcinogenic benzoapyren, BAP, they began by air drying and compensated with additional condiments, as smoke flavoring.

Is there something you can replace the proposed aromas with?

    - For us, this analysis too early to make, says Hildingsson.
Do not believe in the proposal

Christofer Fjellner, MEP, is hard to believe that the proposal would pass.

    - The EU must decide. One can not both prohibit snus and decide what it should contain, he says and continues:

    - I expect that we Swedish members will stand up as one to vote it down here and that the Swedish government against the vote of the Council of Ministers.

According to the National Public Health Institute snuff about one million Swedes. The industry insists that Swedish men smoke to a lesser extent than in other countries, thanks to snuff distribution.

Public Health Minister Maria Larsson (KD) has declined to comment on the proposal.

I'm preparing to be smoking my briar pipe should the worst happen. With a touch of nasal snuff of course. But they couldn't police what you add to your DIY snus at home.

If this one actually went through, I wouldn't be all that surprised to see Sweden threaten to leave the EU. They like their snus, and the EU is always trying to screw with it.

You say that mate, but if the EU Commission wants to ban flavor additives in tobacco, that would mean suppliers like Toque would be F*^%ed. Toque have 37 "flavours" available, i guess Natural Toast and Original might be ok, but im not sure? What about flavored pipe tobacco ?

Eff this, I will start my own country if this proposal passes. These bastards in EU get paid by cigarette companies, that's why they so desperate to ban everything that threatens market balance. Total bulls**t.

Why the hell won't they first start with checking all the added substances in cigarettes? I find this snus blaming absolutely unbelievable. And this is not from the point of view of a 'nicotine addict' which I'm btw not. Why can't they see that snus brings significantly less health problems than smoking?

and the ignorant government doesn't do anything about this -
                    • Around 5.4 million deaths a year are caused by tobacco.* Smoking is set to kill 6.5 million people in 2015 and 8.3 million humans in 2030, with the biggest rise in low-and middle-income countries.
                      * Every 6.5 seconds a current or former smoker dies, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
                      * An estimated 1.3 billion people are smokers worldwide (WHO).
                    • Over 443,000 Americans (over 18 percent of all deaths) die because of smoking each year. Secondhand smoke kills about 50,000 of them.
                    • 1.2 million people in China die because of smoking each year. That's 2,000 people a day.
                    • Tobacco use will kill 1 billion people in the 21st century if current smoking trends continue.
                    • 33 percent to 50 percent of all smokers are killed by their habit.
                      * Smokers die on average 15 years sooner than nonsmokers.

True. But don’t forget that the ignorant governments get a huge amount of tax from those people, do they really give a rats ass how many of them die? My guess is ... NO

As for the tobacco nazis, it’s easier to pick a fight with a small niche market like snus, rather than take on the big boys, who have massive amounts of power and influence with the same governments that won’t do anything about the points you make ...

profit wise, the rich get richer

the poor get poorer (that's what all systems want, and the rich have the power to do exactly that)

here;s an example - 99% of the people in most countries dont afford to buy houses and cars (they have to go in debt for that)

Rich EU countries have teamed up and sucked in the poorer countries, now all over the EU Banks popped up everywhere where they lend money to people just to make them poorer and poorer - In Romania ou end up paying for a 60K apartment twice the peice (120K) and thats just an example of why the EU has been formed the iluminati are al
                            l behind these dirty schemes

In Romania in 1960 - 1989 until the revolution (EVERYONE) afforded to buy a large apartment by paying 10% of their monthly salary

now the salary is not enough to buy groceries (YEP THAT's the reality)

that's the story - the EU has been formed to **** everyone up and make them poorer

only a few 5% are rich and that's because they're all influential people and have the power to do anything in their hands

including manipulating laws and so on

In romania the population is 22 million and over 6 million work abroad - imagine the poverty we're all facing ...

the communist party under Ceausescu was seen as a bad thing (yet people were living normal lives)

now most of the people fight for their existence and most of the young people barely afford to have pocket money let alone making their life (buy apartments, cars, raise children and so on)

what is this world coming to? On a large scale in many countries it's happening the same thing -

the laws are made for the rich, the poor even die because they don't afford to cover medical expenses and so on .............. no one is protected in any way by the government.

Living out of $200 - $500 in the EU is pure poverty and no one seemingly doesn't do anything about it -

Last time the people revolted in the center of Bucharest - they were beaten like animals and some of them were even killed by the the police -

I might be a bit rough on this but this is the reality - and it's happening in many of the EU countries and even the better placed ones such as Greece, SPain and Italy.... and many others.......

If you're thinking to open up a business you need to pay upfront 10 - 20K to cover your ass (protection)

for example if you're a lawyer and want to start your own bureau of lawyers you have to pay $500,000 in advance (protection money)

if you want to be a doctor the same thing happens (probably up to $50,000 if not more)

there are people living in the EU with a retirement salary of under $100 (whereas their medication is double that money)

and here's an example of the people that SEEMINGLY are doing very well in Romania by prostitution, money laundry, drugs, selling organs and so on and attention! they're protected by the governement .....why? because they have money....... that's al there is to it -

this monkey is flushing around the room about 500.000 euros in cash whereas I dream to have that money to buy a house and live a normal life.....

we cannot selll snus in Romania but we can sell WOMEN easily

probably 300K hookers are on the streets and over 300,000 women are doing video chat ;-)

                            life ain't fair is it?
