The incredible shrinking cans of snus

So I was digging through my freezer stash and found some older cans that had been around for awhile. I noticed how the weight of Snus contained in them is higher than for the exact same variety that can be purchased today. This is not just one brand or manufacturer but I see it as an industry trend. How far do you think they will go? On average it looks as if we have lost one can worth of snus out of every roll of portions, and half to a full can out of every roll of Los compared to where they were 2 years ago.

I know this is not unique to snus. Anyone remember going to the store and buying a half gallon of ice cream? Now the standard seems to be 1.5 or 1.75 quart (with that extra bit of cardboard around the bottom of the carton to make it look bigger, they can say its for package integrity but you're not fooling me). I find it odd that some things seem immune to this trend. Imagine if Marlboro started putting 18 cigarettes in a pack. Or Budwieser's were 10.8 oz. And yet other things seem to be constantly expanding....40 oz Slurpee anyone?

That's my rant for the day. Kudos to all the snus makers that still put 24g portions and 45g Los. You know who you are.

Yeah, it sucks big time. I'm sure when i started using snus a few years ago all the los cans had 50 grams. Now the normal weight seems to be 40 grams, it's rubbish, with the product price and tax going up, it costs twice as much for 10 grams less. Portions are just one big rip-off now. I think Pioneer are the only manufacturer still doing 50 gram cans of los

I've bitched about this before. It's dishonest marketing. The tin size stays the same, but the content shrinks. It's the same as buying a pack of cigarettes, and finding 2 cigarettes missing, with a spacer in the pack. Putting 18 Class A Cigarettes in small print on the side doesn't make it ok. BTW, 45g of lössnus is a light can. A proper tin of lös should have 50g in it. Pioneer, and Gotland Grå are the only brands that still ship the correct weight.

oh man..................don't get me started on this

I'll just pop in a pris of 42 g snus and drink my 11.2oz of Warsteiner beer..............and start the day off all pissed.

In fact, let me go find someone to yell at
When it's my time to go, I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my uncle did....... Not screaming in terror like his passengers

Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

Yes, water in snus does evaporate over time, but the tobacco product is shrinking while the cost goes up. I have in my hand a new 40 gram can of Phantom classic los, the old ones had 45 grams, and when i started almost 7 ago now, most cans of los had 50 grams of product.

Fazer, now I understand what you've meant -

well, hope they won't shrink from any longer - lol

wouldn't like to see a tiny 20 grams tin of snus selling for the price

the price is way through the roof already

It had been a while since I ordered loose and just got my goods from snuscentral this week. Disappointed to find all the SM had 42 grams. The Brandy Alexander had only 40.

Snuscentral doesn't carry the Pioneer or Gotland loose and Northerner doesn't ship to WI (though with the taxes I would have to pay they are not likely getting much business from the land-o-cheese.

I miss those blissful days of Gotland yellow and Gellivare. Still wanting to see what Toque comes out with when they finally get there snus on the market. I would advise them to do it right with nice 50 gram cans.
