The EU has very effectively prohibited the import of cigarettes via mail (also for inner-EU shipments). They'll most likely go the same route with snus and according to some members in German snus-forums, who have connections to customs-officers, the associated legislation is already on it's way.

My next buy will be a book "Swedish for beginners". Some knowledge of the Swedish language would certainly be useful on a purchase trip to Sweden.

Besides of that, I surely hope for best.

    Cheers!

From what I know, smokeless tobacco is only illegal to be sold within the EU, except Norway and Sweden and the non EU states Switzerland etc, all over the world its perfectly legal (correct me if I am worng).

I used to have a regular supply of fags sent from Spain with no customs issues and the US.

Funny how it's only SOME smokeless tobacco is illegal to sell, not Grimm & Triepel, Gawith Hoggarth, and Oliver Twist chewing tobacco. Everything but f***ing snus

would someone tell me the EUs logic for banning snus? I mean for real.... what do they say is the reason? I know it's a stupid law, etc. I just can't figure out how they justify snus being illegal but other smokeless and cigs being ok. there must be something they blame it on.

If there is a reason, they're not telling us.

                    re nasal snuff
my take on it is , as the germans use and make alot of nasal snuff there are over six makers i could find and thats alot of money, plus the germans rule the EU so that could be the main reason ?

Nasal snuff ? Nasal snuff isn't an issue, it's Snus that's the problem

Circumstancial reasons. They got it banned for political reasons in the 80's (there was a short panic in the UK in 86), they keep the ban because they don't want to be seen doing a "favor" to a tobacco industry, and they do it because they can, since no one knows anything about snus outside Sweden.

The logic is this: When the EU started to regulate tobacco, cigarettes, cigars and to some extent, nasal snuff, were present in all countries. Snus, however, was a purely swedish product. Therefore, Snus would have been a "new" tobacco product being introduced to the other European countries. And that's the crux: they could say "nope, we're not allowing a new product, which the WHO says is harmful, in the EU". Hence the ban.

It's a very twisted way of looking at things and one I don't agree with at all, but that is, as far as I know, the reasoning given by those in power.
