Legally, snus is not considered a "tobacco product" in terms of the tax-laws, from which the customs-regulations are derivated. It's a general good that can be imported with no restrictions inside the EU. All relevant taxes are already payed in Sweden. The tax-laws are unified EU-wide. Some countries have special regulations (Finland) but in the UK it's no different from Germany or France.
The problems that we encounter at the moment do not come from customs-regulations in single EU-countries. They come from a recently enforced export ban in Sweden. Of course, this export ban is a direct result of the EU-snus-ban, but it doesn't affect personal imports in the slightest kind.
But yes, it depends on the customs officer. Not every customs worker has ever heard about snus and some might think that snus has to be handled like, e.g. roll-your-own tobacco. So, to be on the safe side, you should check the regulations for the UK. I heard once, that up to 3 kg can bei imported duty-free. Our British members certainly will provide better informations.
having been to gothenburg i would order from premium parrots... sweden is lovely and the people are nice but the costs do add up. but if you want a city break rather than cheap snus then that's a different matter.
Thanks everyone! One of my brothers lives in Aberdeen, Scotland and thinks he might be able to get a cheap flight from there but I'll certainly have a word with PP! I didn't know I could! :-)
