    Portion Snus Case?

    Hey Everyone,

I'm getting ready to go into the military (United States Air Force), and will be swearing in August 17th. After basic, I'll be able to use snus again. Currently, I'm overseas and I'm trying to prepare all my snus related goodies now so they will be ready to go as soon as I'm out of basic. I've already got around 100 cans waiting in the freezer at home for me. Now my question for you guys is this, what case do you recommend for my snus? I need a case that can survive in a military environment (lots of concrete, steel, etc).

I really like the look of the Icetool boxes, but I need to make sure whatever box I buy will be durable. It could be subject to frequent drops (concrete, etc), and it is quite likely to be smacked against walls, tools, etc. No matter how careful I try to be, there will be a risk of abuse to this box. I've heard Icetool boxes are very durable, but I'd like some feedback on the durability or some feedback on other boxes (I'm not aware of any other boxes with the amazing feedback that Icetool has). The last thing I need/want is for my can of portions/lös to be smashed and spread all over the inside of my pocket. That stuff is precious, I don't want to waste a single portion/pinch! So this box needs to be like a freaking terminator and be able to survive frequent abuse (direct and indirect).

I'll be working 12-14 hour (and sometimes longer) days, so this box needs to be able to hold a full can of regular sized portions or a full can of lös without issue. I'd prefer the can to not be to bulky, but I don't really want to lose the ability to hold a full can of snus either. I'm thinking about the "Icetool Slim Box" right now, but I need to research it a little bit to see how much snus can be held within the slim box. It's either that or the portion box as of now.

What do you fine folks think? What box is worthy to protect my precious snus?

welcome. Sounds like you need to make a snus pipe bomb. Get a small lenght of metal pipe [pvc would probably do fine] and seal one end and put a screw cann on the other end.

Do you really think you NEED a better tin. Mount the tin on your helmet. That should protect it.
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

Ice Tool is a good brand known for quality. If you like the way it looks and you have the cash, I would buy it. Having said that, when I was in the military, years ago, I used a little plastic case I bought at the base exchange for my cigarettes. It was very cheap but I never had an issue with it. We were allowed to smoke during basic training at that time.

        Oregon,

As a Multiple tour US Army Vet(Now a contractor) I can tell ya...

Just use the plastic can it comes in. You will do just fine Unless its Olde Ving, that can seems to be made from crappytainium and broke on me. I dropped a can of skruf off the aft work platform on a 47 yesterday, and it survived that drop and stayed shut. If it will survive a drop like that, then its pretty stout as is.

As USAF your not going to be a door kicker so you will be OK.

If my cardboard cans of Cope and my plastic cans of Skoal can survive multiple deployments, then the plastic cans of Snus will survive anything.

        Just my .02 Cents.

Now if your trying to justify a new purchase, then Go For It!

But unless your going PJ you will be just fine.

Take this to heart, if a former Night Stalker crew chief cannot screw something up, then its pretty much good to go

And for the record my plastic can of Skoal Apple survived along with me, an Anti Tank mine detonation. Long story short you know the shirts that say "I am a bomb tech...if you see me running...try to keep up".... I am living proof that this is not only sound, but really, really good and extremely practical advice. (This is the summary, not what actually happened as this is a much longer story. I try to stay positive and make humor from negative experiences usually as this is how I stay sane some days)

If it ain't broke don't fix it bro.

Now all that being said I am a new Snus User having only Snused for the last month (Smoke free baby!), but so far I abuse my cans and they work. Except for Olde Ving. I now love the flavor, hate the can.

If your absolutely concerned about durability, look at "Can keepers". http://cankeeper.com/, http://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedi...koal-snuff-can . I have used several over the years and they make great survival kit holders, also great for their intended purpose too! I used mine during monsoon season in Korea to help get by with dry Cope.

        Hope this helps you!

Good idea. I hope I didn't come off sounding like a dumbass. I appreciate the feedback. Perhaps I'll use some bonus points of mine on one of the websites and buy an icetool box, or just order an extra roll of snus.

I'll look into that as well. Sadly BMT (Air Force "basic") is tobacco free. It's going to be a long 8.5 weeks. I like the way the icetool box looks, I'm just not sure if its worth the cost considering I can buy another roll of snus (easily) for that cost. I appreciate the feedback, thanks!

          Byron,

First of all, thank you for your service! Second, congrats on being smoke free for a month! That's excellent! I suppose you are right about the regular cans being plenty tough. If I'm not being to careless they should survive without issue. My AFSC will not require me to jump out of a plane, or kick in any doors (as you mentioned). Perhaps I was just looking for the proper excuse to buy one.

I really appreciate the feedback. I'll check out those links. I'll remember that, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it!".

          Thanks everyone,

          Patrick/ON

I can solve this whole problem real fast.

If you do not buy the bullet proof snus container THE TERRORISTS HAVE WON!

Make sure you get one of the newer ones where the writing is engraved into the metal instead of the plastic label type...

I think the biggest problem you'll have is accidently dropping it behind the La-Z-Boy recliner and not being able to reach it.

That said, USAF issues those long grabber things to all of it's soldiers, so I would suggest you either mount a magnet on that, and use a metal can, this way you'll be able to reach behind couches, big screen TVs, and refrigerators easier when you drop your can. The plus side, is that if you misplace your grabber, wherever you may be in the USAF, you can be assured that you will have ice cold A/C, so if it's close to your standard issue nap time, you can be assured that the cool temperatures will keep your snus fresh until you wake up from nap time and borrow a fellow soliders grabber.

                (/satire)

Ok in all seriousness you'll probably be fine, but if you want something, make sure it's waterproof!! I can't tell you how many cans of snus and dip have been ruined from trudging through lakes, standing in the rain, etc. Once you get to AIT, or tech school whatever you guys call it, you might be able to use snus then. I dunno though, when I was at AIT at Fort Sam Houston all of the Air Force guys weren't even allowed to smoke. So they would walk down to our area of the base after hours and smoke and drink beers with us.

I went through Army basic last year. You'll do fine, and congrats! You'll enjoy it.

No thanks required, though you did make my morning

Thank you for your current service and future service! And thank you to any vets who may be reading this.

When I did Basic and AIT we were not allowed to use any form of tobacco, yet if we asked the doc at sick call, we could get nicotine gum for free once we hit AIT

The Icetool box does appeal to me too, its kinda neat looking. I just cannot justify the price yet.

So far the can keepers keep it nice and fresh here in the middle east (U.A.E.). I do have to use a old plastic skoal can(washed clean) to fit it into the keeper, I just load up the flavor for the day with a few pouches and off to work I go. If I recall correctly they at one point made one for a can of red seal, which is about the same size as a regular Snus can, this would be the perfect option.

I dig the Icetool can with the used portion storage on the top the best.

Just found this on a quick google search....it looks kinda nifty, I may just pick one up.

I wonder if this will work with Los Snus...... I can't wait for my order to arrive this week so I can try Los for the first time.

Byron, Get a pris-master from buysnus or wherever you ordered your snus from. They are cheap (like 2 bucks) and they are worth it! Makes using Los for the first times very easy.

If you can't get one right away, go see the medics and ask for a 5mL or 10mL syringe (Depending on prilla size preference), cut the tip off, and use that.

You can google that to see how it works. It actually DOESN'T work well (at least to me), but it works better than trying to fumble around with hand baking using Los for the first time.

                        Jmdkodiak,

I did order a Pris-master with my order from Northern. I Thought about using a syringe, but for $2 ill take the easy route .

After dipping for years, I think I can handle a hand bake, but I bought the tool just in case......

I ordered Odens original ES loose, Grovsnus, Ettan, General, and Göteborgs Rape for my first foray into the loose snus realm. I ordered 2 cans of each as a buddy at work wants to quit cope, and doesn't like portions. I also got 2 of the Pris-master tools.

All that Snus, plus what I got in my fridge(12 ish cans of various portions) should last me past ramadan, when I can order more to restock. I wish they made pork flavored portions, I would convert my whole hangar by the end of the month .

No smoking, eating, drinking etc in public from sun up to sunset makes for some grumpy Americans. We do hide in our office to eat/ drink water, but in our new hangar there is no place to hide and smoke, previously we used a electrical closet with 4 fans to blow the smoke out the window. YET ANOTHER PLUS TO SNUS! Its quite discrete.
