So... what to expect ordering Snus online?

    Howdy all,

I've never ordered Snus online before. My dad used to say that it was a pain in the a** due to shipping, taxes (or was that avoiding... >.> ), etc. I still have about 4000 tins of my dad's snus left but I'm not real big on most of it. Actually, most of the stuff he had has become dried out. He would order in bulk and freeze it, but due to lax storage on my part (since I don't have a freezer big enough for all of it) it dried out.

I'm only ever purchased General Snus in the Minneapolis area as none of the Tobacco shops care to look into anything else. One owner said to me, when I asked if he would look into getting more brands, "Why bother. Snus is snus." I asked him "Is a cigar a cigar? Why bother selling hundreds of different brands?" He politely asked me to leave his store.

So I'm forced to order online. I know there are a bunch of Snus online retailers but many of them have the same store layout. I assume they're all connected in some way?

Bascically, I want to order a couple of rolls of Thunder Wintergreen. What issues will I run into ordering online? Hefty taxes? Questions from the postal service? What's the best place to order from?

    Anyway, thanks for listening.

Order from Northerner if you just want thunder. Their shipping is the cheapest. Your gonna have to just deal with the taxes. I'm in AL so I enjoy the lowest tobacco taxes in the country, but it's just part of it. Buysnus is good if you want some brands that northerner does not carry, but the shipping is high.

That "snus is snus" thing is stupid. It's like saying "a fruit is a fruit" like oranges and pears tastes the same? But anyway. I think you'll need to pay some taxes but postal service won't ask any questions or anything because it really is shipped as a tobacco product and it's legal. The best place to order would be http://www.buysnus.com/
      or http://www.northerner.com/. Happpy ordering

But wow! 4000 cans? You should sell some of it on these forums or something if you don't like em

4000 tins?? :O You should liquidate that on here if it's not what you like. And that shopkeep sounds like a major asshat. Reminds me of one of the shops near me.

To your question: I've never ordered from outside of the U.S., I always order from the Northerner. Due to the stupid laws, it can only be shipped by UPS, with age verification (21 no matter where you are in the states.) All of the taxes are added on your invoice/order at the northerner, so you just pay and get it shipped to you.

Expect joy 90% of the time and grief 10% of the time when ordering online.

            4000 cans??? Really???

Yep, 4000-ish. I brought about 1/3rd of what he had back with me to Minnesota. The rest are sitting at my moms house back in Mass.

After he passed, I went though a lot of his paperwork and found shipping receipts. He would spend about $300-$500 a month on Snus and Snuff. He would vacuum pack 15 tins in baggies and freeze them. He would just buy and buy and never go through it all. He was mostly a user of Northerner Boost so he had cases of that still unopened. All of the Snus, currently, is out of date. I dunno if he ordered out of date Snus or just left older stuff in the freezer and use up the fresh stuff that he would get in. The oldest Snus he has expired in 07/2009. (He would label the baggies with the vacuum seal date.)

The stuff I brought with me was Snus that I could "deal" with. I've got about 130 cans of Ice Fruit that I'm slowly going through. Sadly I blew through all the stuff I liked. So I figured that I could mix it up by getting more stuff I like and alternating with the stuff I can deal with. I go through a tin of Snus in 3 days, so what I have will last me a couple of years. That is if it doesn't rot.

Thanks for the heads up. Checking out the sites now to put in an order

Howdy Snusoff. I hope the family is adjusting and doing well. If its that dried out you might want to contact someone thats into mixing and fooling with nasal snuff such as Whalen. He could make use of them if you plan on tossing them out might as well give them to someone that might be able to use them.

otherwise send em to me. I would take a hypo needle and inject a measured amount of distilled water into each tin and send it off to the military. That should revive them suficiently to make them worthwhile to give away and pay for shippping. They really don't care as long as its tobacco it won't go to waste. I don't mind handeling the project. But you can do it yourself if you want. Just don't toss them out.

                Glad to see you posting.

alot of them use dip. I've sent a ton of snus to the military thru donations by the good member of snuson. Snus is healthier for them but that really doesn't matter to them. Anything we can send them is helpfull. Those tins can be revieved pretty well if done right. But they wouldn't be sellable IMO. Keeps you from tossing it out. PM me if you want.

I can always recommend www.snus2.de. They come from Sweden and the delivery may take a few days longer. but the quality is very good and the settlement professional.

That's a good idea PP. If it were me, I wouldn't pre-treat the snus. I'd send it as-is, and include a sheet with instructions on rejuvenating it. That way it stays fixed in its sub-optimal state, and should keep better until it's needed. I know if I were in the middle of a foreign wasteland, even old crappy snus would taste like ambrosia.

I hope you're doing well Snusoff. I still think of your father on occasion :^)

You should hold on to a lot of that snus. You can bring it back to life, and you may find you like it better than you thought. As far as age goes, I'm still using snus that "expired" in 2008. It tastes great to me, and some of the snus isn't available anywhere at any price :^)

Yea thats probably a better idea to let them mix like 1/4 teaspoon per tin [or less] to get it going again. It won't be quite the same but they will use it.
