I notice most of you refer to what the snus contains as "cans". I always thought it was "tin", or can they be used interchangeably. Whenever I'm at a shop, I ask for a "tin" of General. I'm assuming "can" is the proper terminology then?
Can or tin?

It really doesn't seem like either to me. It's either a small plastic tub or paper board. I only buy it on-line though. If they had it in the store I'd say "and that Oden's" and point.

To me it has always been a can and say can....
IMHO I think "can" is the proper terminology. When you shop on the online shops you are putting and buying cans in your cart not tins... I have coupons from General that were sent to me just yesterday and it says enjoy $2.50 off any one can of General, Another states... Your next can for $1. If Swedish Match is referring to them as cans the cans it is...

Like everyone else has said....it can be either. I prefer can just because thats how it was introduced to me "this is a can of skoal apple" I believe the farther east you get in the U.S. the more it is referred to as a tin.

Portions come in a can….which is tossed onto the counter by some random gas station attendant with the mere exchange of money...........
Los, on the other hand, is lovingly and delicately conveyed in a tin………….. for the gentleman of discerning taste and a refined pallet……………it is then gingerly wrapped in a tidy parcel and affectionately handed to the coinsurer by his local tobacconist………….but only after a period of thoughtful reflection and anticipation…………. restrained only by a due sense of decorum and expected modesty.
Look if ya’ll can stir the pot with religion and gun debates…………..I can throw a little whooie into the mix over losWhen it's my time to go, I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my uncle did....... Not screaming in terror like his passengers

I think I use both words on occasion but I guess 'can' is more fitting than 'tin' with 'tin' maybe suggesting a metal 'tin' of snuff.
