    Snus Noob Recommendations

Hi, folks. Stumbled onto snus after about twenty-five years of copenhagen. I ordered a grab bag of random snus to try various brands and styles, etc. Half los, half portion. Took my upper lip a while to adjust (Hurt pretty badly because of the salt after the first week, gave the gums a few days off, went back and all is well).

Anyway, I'm getting close to a second order and wanted to ask for some recommendations based upon what I've enjoyed so far.

Actually first place is a tie between Grovsnus Los and Roda Lackett los. I really enjoy both of these, and they've been the first cans to run empty. Augh.

I got a few other los snus, Skruf, Granit, and a Thunder Extra Stark. Of the three, the Skruf is probably preferred, though all three are a bit 'Meh' for me. The Thunder is extra long cut, and you can just dip it, so it's slightly more workable in public. The other two, I mainly taste salt... then a bit of bergamot with the granit. Roda and Grov blow them all away by far.

The portions are a little closer... I have Phantom Brown, the Oden cold silver can, TWO Thunders, one blue, one red, and Jacobson's.

I think I like the Phantom and the red extra stark Thunder the best. The oden and the blue can thunder are so-so, and actively dislike the Jacobson's (Never got a flavor beyond salt out of it).

Any tips on what else I should try? Thanks!

If you liked Grov then try Old Ving, Ettan or Goteborgs Prima Fint, Oden's Original and Extreme I also highly recommend, any Oden's for that matter.

+1 for Oden's. All of the original flavors are the best! Olde Ving is good too. That is also made by Oden's. They have a great flavor and very economical. Seeing as you like more traditional flavors, I would also give General (any strength) and Nick and Johnny White a try.

          Extreme los
          Extreme Kanal
          Knox
          General EX Stark
Prima Fint (it is the base snus for Roda.....though to me it is pretty mild flavor-wise)

Don't let the Extra Stark throw you.........just adjust the amount you use at one time.

Also don't throw anything away.....your taste will change and refine.....after the first few weeks the saltiness will fade into the background and you will be able to pick out flavors......thus if you don't like something at first....stick it in the freezer and revisit it in a few months

One more thing……….. you might want to check out the dippers guide to snus.........a lot of x-dippers have shared their tips and tricks.....you might find it of use

You can find the guide here:
          http://www.snuson.com/forum/showthre...-Guide-to-Snus

Anyway …………..it’s always good to have another former dip-lip on board.......keep us posted on how it’s going and what you order.
When it's my time to go, I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my uncle did....... Not screaming in terror like his passengers

Grov and Roda Lacket are really good in their loose forms. My favourite Swedish Mach lös (at the moment) is Göteborgs Rapé. It has a nice herbal sort of taste due to its use of juniper berries for flavouring.

I think I have to give a slight edge to Roda Lacket -- Only ran out of Grov first because I was trying to extend the life of the RL can, heh. I've been warming up to the Skruf (stark los), but given the choice I'd be reaching for Grov & RL first.

Put in an order... a couple RL los, couple Grov, an Ettan and the two Goteborgs, an Oden XL and a Knox. Some portions of same for less los-friendly environments, and a Goteborgs Rape Lime for kicks. Threw in another half dozen grab bags for experimentation.

The Ettan is outstanding. Similar in feel to the roda lacket, flavor a bit different. That said, it's a strong yet simple tobacco flavor that could get tiresome as an everyday snus.

Goetsberg Rape... likable, but mild in a way that haunt quite grabbed my attention yet.

Got a probe whiskey in the grab bag that sounds interesting.

Do open cans dry out faster? I want to sample, but I don't want a months worth open cans drying on me.

Just throw any opened cans into the freezer till you want to use them again, they will keep fine.

I can't speak for Lossnus yet, but it sounds like you've tried all the good ones. Jak's has 2 different flavors, their original is saltier, and their original strong is less salty and a little sweeter. Give it a try. Also, I really like the Rape; from what I've heard the lime isn't all that great, but the No2 (lingonberry) is excellent. Good choice on the RL, I love that stuff.

I dig general original, es, onyx and wintergreen as the best tasting close to cope flavors to me. Probe Whiskey is a great cope black sub.

                            Recommendations?

Hi, I just started- I'll keep it short. I've tried General white portion and mint, which I was able to find semi-locally. I have to be honest I'm a bit perplexed at all the good reviews at general white portion as it was so overpoweringly salty not to mention it smells like the herbal balm old people put on their joints... but I suppose to each his own. It's kind of funny because general white portion really reminded me of this candy my norwegian friend likes which also basically tasted like dirty salt... so it must be something palette related in the region. The mint was better but it has artificial sweetener in it which I didn't like and could taste.

For regular style snus is there something more savory or citrus tasting without so much salt- and on the mint side something that doesn't have artificial crap in it?
                            I don't need a lot of nicotine, I wasn't a heavy smoker.

                            Thanks in advance.

Come back to the General in a few months as your tastes will change.

For mint try Oden's Cold, no sweetner in it so will be what you are after.

All snus has salt in it so it does come through but try Jakobssons Classic (not the strong one) thats quite citrusy and not too salty.
