I've always loved the EU, but this is insane. Another thing that struck me is that the Danish Media isn't releasing any reports about this - Not a single goddamn article.

It's like they cover it up - Like they did when ACTA was on the table where it was signed by Denmark before information was given... This has never happened in Denmark before, politics has ALWAYS been open, but not these past couple of years. I don't really get it, like if it's in the EU Denmark automatically agrees, as if they don't have a say.

How about several of you writing an editorial in your local paper ……using snus as an example of the alarming political trend…..and how back door politics is banning a safer product while keeping the deadly one (that started all of this) available.

You could also contact local news stations (Radio/TV) asking them to run a story on this

Its killing me not to bring up the irony of a recent thread that discussed bans on things that most of the EU members here approved banning. Which leads me to believe its good to ban things YOU are against and bad to ban things YOU are for? Based on assumptions YOU made about those items. Now you are mad because people are making assumptions about things YOU like, and since its now PERSONAL you are mad. There are no apples and oranges here, only fruits that love to ban things.

But if it makes you feel any better, I am also against banning snus anywhere. It does fall nicely into my un-ban everything attitude.

I am not going to reply to this thread again, so as not to completely derail it. I just thought my points have merit.

          Indeed they do :^)

Add onto to that the evils of strong central governments, and you have everything that's wrong with the world in one thread :^)

See how big the UK smokeless market could be with snus available! Most are probably unaware of the current offerings. I gave OT another go today and upper lipped it instead of where I used to use them and I have a jagarpris tobacco cut in now which are legally sold here!

You can still buy in Sweden and bring it to any EU country legally, you just have to pick it up yourself and bring a receipt proving taxes are paid.

Most people think this is impossible but travelling in Europe especially from Germany, Denmark, Norway, Finland is easy and not very expensive so go for it, buy 30-40 rolls, put in freezer, voilá.

No room in freezer? get another one, used if need be. As long as you beat the corrupt EU system

Loose snus being banned where portions are already banned or portions would remain legal?

Portions were already illegal to buy in Denmark. This ruling makes all snus illegal now mate.

Sorry - yes I meant sales are banned. Ownership is not illegal in any eU country as far as I know.

I did always HATE the European Union for many reasons. I did start smoking Marlboro in 1996 when they were having a great taste, 1 mg of Nicotine and 14 mg of Tar. Then one day in 1998 I buy a pack and I feel the taste is different, they are not strong anymore. I check the pack and instead of 14 mg Tar 1 mg Nicotine I see 0.9 mg Nicotine and 12 mg Tar. Additionally, I see a lot of laser made holes all around the filter to make you breath half smoke and half air. New EU Tobacco Directive, cigs can't contain more than 1 mg Nicotine and 12 mg Tar. OK I get used with this shitty Marlboro, but one day in 2004 I feel the taste did change again. Now the filter is really full of those damned holes and the taste is like a Marlboro light. I check the pack and now it says 0.8 mg. Nicotine and 10 mg Tar. Another EU Tobacco directive, maximum Tar & Nicotine content got lowered to 10 mg tar & 1 mg Nicotine. For this reason between 2004 and 2012 I had to smoke exclusively smuggled cigarettes made outside EU. In 2012 I finally quit smoking and I skip to snus. I can get it without problems even if the sale is banned in the EU. I get used with Skruf. In July I find out I can't buy Skruf anymore and the only stuff I can still buy is V2 snus. Now I won't probably be able to get V2 stuff anymore. WHAT A DAMN NIGHTMARE !

The only thing illegal about snus in the EU is the sale outside sweden, norway and (for now) denmark. Other than that you can import it, use it, eat it, wash your car with it, do whatever you please free from shower time with bubba and his mates!

You need to seek judicial review and take it all the way to the European court or ECHR, which, from what I know, has been tried and failed. Think it went last time due to the ban infringing the free trade between MS, however a new challenge on your right to choose a scientifically proven safer alternative to smoking I could see having grounds. Would be easier once the tobacco directive is reviewed and if the ban is lifted, no worries.

From my understanding the denmark ban is because they don't have the swedish exemption for snus so have to follow suit like the rest of us, correct me if I am wrong. The easiest thing with the EU is to do what france and italy do and just ignore it and pay the fine, they can't throw a whole country in jail (not that an entire country can commit such an offence) and what could the EU do about it if a country stuck 2 fingers up and continued selling? Nothing! The ECHR seems to work well enough for terrorists so what about my right to choose the smokeless tobacco I want to consume as I do not want to smoke!

Personally if/when we finally get our referendum on the EU I now have an extra reason to vote to leave as I have never been a fan.
