Is loose king in snusing?...And if so, why?

I purchased some loose snus recently after going back and forth with my choices.

I like the portions, but I thought I was missing something with the loose.

I purchased the Thunder frosted loose and Thunder frosted raw portions.

I am trying to really appreciate the loose snus, so from what I understand you want to mold a pris.
When it is packed well enough, place in the upper lift toward the canine.
From there it just sits, I am just wondering if mine are molded so tight that nicotine does not release.
It is a molded piece in which I thought would be more powerful since there are no barriers, and a large size can pack a bigger punch.
How long does one give up on this or how long should it take to feel the nicotine effects.
Is it just about waiting....letting the snus develop?
How long does it typically take to feel the nicotine, and how long do you keep a loose snus in?

The best snus I have had, has been Thunder Wintergreen Long Cut as that throws a heavy hit pretty fast.

    Any suggestions or comments

    Thanks

You've pretty much hit the nail on the head.

Inside a portion bag all the little specks of tobacco can move around, increasing the surface area available with the tobacco and giving a fairly strong initial nicotine hit. With a tightly packed prilla of lös, you only really get the nicotine from the outside layer to start with and it's not until the prilla starts to lose shape and go mushy that you get the rest of it. By which time most people new to lös will have taken it out!

The art of lös snus is a balancing act between getting a nice nic hit and the whole thing falling to bits and creating "mud mouth". Once you're a more seasoned user you should be able to judge how tightly you want it to be at the start and know how much you can play with the prilla with your tongue befriend get extra nic and flavour before it all goes to mush.

I'd recommend having a go with the opposite end of the spectrum to a tightly baked pris - the hillbilly pinch. Take a pinch between your thumb and forefinger (or first 2 fingers if you want a big one) and just shove it up there. Once inside the upper lip, push it up as far as it will go with your tongue and shape it a bit trying to avoid getting it too wet. Have a go in private, it can be a bit messy! Also don't be paranoid about swallowing a little bit of snus - it's just dried vegetable matter and doesn't really affect your stomach in small doses.

Once you've tried the massive release of flavour and nicotine this method gives, you can play around with how tight you want your loose to be.

    Good luck

Loose prillas are best not packed at all. I just tamp down lightly in a icetool and put in place, then shape with my tongue. Practice grasshopper.

Dunno about the nicotine. That's never been a concern to me, and anything in the range 6-10mg/g is fine. I don't like it any stronger, and have no idea how fast the nicotine uptake is. I'm not sure Frosted is the best introduction to lössnus. I actually prefer portions for my occasional mint fix. For lössnus, traditional flavors are better, and the appeal is a greater range of subtle flavors. It can take awhile until your tastebuds tune into them, but it's more satisfying over the long term.

To add to what squeezy said, I'd suggest trying everything. Lössnus technique is very individual, and it gets subconsciously tweaked over time. You'll figure out what gives you the best performance with regards to flavor, nicotine, and mouth feel.

Los is tough to get. I use los sparingly and I'm still not there yet. V2 does make long cut varieties, but I haven't tried them yet.

You might have better luck with starting on los that is notoriously easy to form prillas out of. I would recommend Skruf Stark los or Roda Lacket los.
