5kg of snus from what I know. However I once came back from spain in the car with 20,000 cigarettes, so just bring as much as you can!

If say someone brought a van's worth back.... legally... and then gave it out as gifts to friends who then compensated the driver for their petrol useage at a rate of £5 per can. Completely legal, right?

Yeah. Try and tell Customs that. Everybody tries that one.

I don't think HMRC would buy that mate. You can only bring back that that you intend for 'personal use'

Yeah, its not illegal to bring snus in the UK you know, its just the sale in shops thats banned, its for personal use!! Wouldn't worry about bringing any back that you buy, no matter how much. I always bring back more than allowed on outside EU flights, if you get stopped just surrender it and take in what you can. used to do it all the time when I was back and forth to Dubai, 6000 tabs each time never got stopped.

Whilst its on its way back to us it is intended for personal use. Once we get home we change our mind.

Could work. For it to work you would have to 'prove' that it's either for your personal useage or you'd need to 'prove' that you're giving it away as gifts.
Now how you can 'prove' that I've no idea. Shame I don't work for Customs any more lol.

It's not illegal to change your intentions.

Fight the power! Not your fault you suddenly decided to quit tobacco and want to give away your stash is it

Let me get this straight: i am in no way condoning the breaking of any laws.

well, snus is made of tobacco. EU regulations say you can legally import from another EU country 800 cigarettes or 400 small cigars or 200 cigars or 1 Kg. of smoking tobacco.
The point is if they do consider snus as smoking tobacco or snus is not regulated by these laws.
Back to my smoking days, I was coming back from egypt with 15 cartons of Cleopatra cigs everytime and I never had problems. 1 carton was 4,5 $ so.....
