    Makla El Hilal

I mainly use swedish snus but when I need some extra kick (like when I wake up in the morning) I like to take some Makla.
I did try all the versions of Makla (Ifrikia, El Kantara, Platinum, Bentchicou green & red) but I did never have the chance to try Makla El Hilal. This one is the only Makla still produced in Algeria by the local tobacco monopoly SNTA.
I did read somewhere that it's sold in France too. I can't find any online tobacco shop selling it.
Is there somebody who did try it and could obtain some cans for me?

Very sorry tn2. I didn't realise the specific tin that you wanted. I just remembered that Mr Snuff had a good range.

        Maybe somebody else can help.

Man you are a brave fellow. I love me some nicotine buzz, but Mr. snuff's range of Makla products were the only tobacco products I tried that made me want to throw up.

I would literally rather smoke Virginia Slims than use Makla.

LMAO! I remember running out of smokes and being very dissapointed when someone would offer me a Kool or Benson and Hedges. Kind of like being offered salt water to quench your thirst.

Oh well back to my smoking days I wasn't putting in my mouth something with less than 15 mg tar and 1,2 mg nicotine. Let's say I was mainly dealing with stuff containing 20-25 mg tar and 1,8 mg nicotine. Thats why I love the Makla nicotine buzz....

I've tried Makla El Hilal but it's not regularly on sale here. Good stuff, better than Bentchicou maklas. It's more tobaccoish in flavour and constituency is looser, more like coarse snus.

I think there are at least two variations of Makla El Hilal; I've got it in green and brown bags and yes, it is not sold in tins, but in foil pouches so you need a spare tin to keep your makla in. Pouches also have a production code and best by-date, which is plus.

Overall, good old Algerian state monopoly rocks and wins Eurotrash competition clearly.

Better just ask your local ethnic shops if they can get some for you. Good luck!

I am a skier, and have been snusing, chewing, sniffing forever. Whenever Im in the EU, and run out of swedish suns, I usually turn to makla. I could understand how a lot of people can hate it, the smell is funky, its much harsher on your gums, and stronger too. Personally it will always be my plan B, but a lot of my friends prefer it over snus, since you can buy it pretty much anywhere in France or Switzerland, and the cans last much longer since you usually bake smaller portions. I have always chewed makla in my upper lip, and put a small piece of tissue under it so I dont get any drip... Sometimes when I have time on my hands, I make a little portion out of thin tissue paper, it's easier on your gums, and you can leave it in for much longer.

Makla is good, Snus is good, it all depends on your taste!

Wouldn't surprise me if that stuff was responsible for the big bang the amount of chemicals that are in it! lol

Makla, or chema, which is actually the correct name for this kind of tobacco, is pretty clean product as UK lab tests indicate; amounts of proven harmful elements like lead etc. is minimal as is exposure; you simply can't make megaprillas out of it. Really like the stuff, especially genuine Algerian but Bentchicou maklas aren't bad.
