Nick & Johnny Black Tarmac !!!

Well I had a look at the new Northerner site now it's up and running and saw this beast - currently out of stock.

As a fan of the original Nick & Johnny - portions & lös - through the dodgy moments of N&J East and West versions with their weird futuristic coffin cans and then all the constant re-branding and flavours including the stellar Radical Red.

And now Black Tarmac which is advertised as: "A full bodied and smoky tobacco taste with distinct notes of liquorice, salmiak and tar, along with hints of dried fruit" It sounds absolutely delicious to me from that.

.... now .... how am I going to get hold of this beautiful bastard of a snus?

            Yes.

That's a taste that works really well (if it's subtle) with liquorice, salmiak etc. Also blackcurrant. There were old school cough pastilles we used to get in the UK that had these flavours combined. It's also reminiscent of the kind of smokey, malty taste you get in a good stout. I don't think they actually are putting tar in this snus!

I am pretty excited over this, especially since Oden's Lakrits has changed my opinion of licorice snus. I still don't like licorice, but it seems to meld so well with tobacco flavor.

It doesn't say anything about being black in the description. Radical Red isn't a red portion so it's not a foregone conclusion.

                    It's not black.

I think that N & J loose was one of the best loose snus. Strong and peppery just like general but stronger and no citrus taste. It is a pity that the Swedish Match stopped the production ...

I've been off of N&J for a while now due to the cost factor. I've made another sterk my staple sterk but when I placed an order last week I couldn't resist the Black Tarmac. Odd name, but even that sounds good. So I ordered a half-roll with a fair amount of confidence as N&J has never disappointed. Well, this snus is a home run!

I don't care much about the packaging, but the art is nice...i guess. Cracking the can I jam my nose in there and breathe deeply. The ammonia w/ N&J is my favorite thing...this was a fresh snus! I got that sharp ammonia burn all the way to the back of my brain. i couldn't want to have a portion. The smell of licorice was very present, but not overbearing. In the lip it's N&J all the way. Smokey, leathery, earthy and all that...oh yeah, and licorice but at an equal intensity as all of the other flavors.

The portions are full so the surface area on the lip is nice and makes for a good burn. The flavors balance better than any other licorice on the market, IMO. It juices up like any other N&J and it's strong, full-bodied, and just massively pleasurable. This is a snus worth spending the extra coin on...even if only to try. I might get a whole roll on my next order but I'm not sure I'm good for more than that in a year's time...again, due to the cost factor.

I though Gotlands licorice was the top of the heap, but there's a new king in this market...and that's N&J. Wow, this is a fantastic snus. I blew through a can in three days and it would have been faster, but my body can't handle all sterks all the time. I hope this one sticks around because I want more.

In some way this is slightly reminiscent of N&J West, but it's been years since I've had that so take it with a grain of salt. It must be the salmiak, but if they toned down the licorice by about 50% you'd have a N&J West, albeit a wet version. I'm in heaven with this stuff. It's definitely a must-buy and even if you don't like flavored snus...this one is not overpowering...well, the nic is nice and high and hits you right between the eyes, but other than that you're in for a great ride with N&J Black Tarmac!
