Details from todays Snus run to Stockholm from London with prices and info

As someone who has been prowling the forums for information for a while I thought it was about time to giveback to the community. So here are some up to date details form a recent Snus run from London to Stockholm and back.

I gave my self a few hours to wonder round and check out a few shops. Bare in mind the Express train to the city is 499Kr (£48) for a return, so you may want to take that into consideration as some people in these forums seem to forget that part when they says its cheaper to get it in the city than at the 'overpriced' airport.

For a single tin of snus the most expensive are the 'premium' brands.
General, Ettan, Goteborg Rape are all 49kr per tin. Other brands drop as low as 35kr

Back at the airport -Arlanda- it's easy to pick up snus there. Just past security, in the duty free, prices seemed to be fixed for all brands (which include the above and a few I didn't take the names of) and come in two choices.

Rolls of 5 at 250kr ish if your flying out the EU. 280-300kr ish if
your flying to somewhere in the EU.

Rolls of 10 at 399kr if your flying out the EU. 429kr if your flying
    to somewhere in the EU.

If like me and your flying back to the UK you have to go through passport control inside. Gates F56-F69 are on the other side and you have one last chance to grab some at the small Duty free over there before your gate. They only stock rolls of 5 though.

I had absolutely no problem going through security with 8 individual cans. They didn't bat an eyelid. I then bought 2 rolls of 10 (totalling 28) happily and threw then in my carry on and flew back. No questions asked. I am unsure as to the limit you can buy, but if you can buy it here, there are no more bag checks after this point so in theory I can't see filling your carry on being an issue if they sell it all to you.

Sucks you have to pay a little extra for living in the EU but I hope this information helps and eases anyone planning a cheap flight over to grab some. You don't even need to leave the airport and can leave minimal time between flights if time is an issue. Otherwise I advise staying a few days in the lovely city as a pleasant side effect of your mission.

    Peace out.

    PS
At the time of my trip - 02-October-2012
    £1 = 10.68Kr

Thanks for the detailed numbers. That should be useful for people flying to Sweden, and welcome to SnusOn!

A friend tells me its about £2 - £4.50 a can depending on brand, General etc are at the upper end but it seems to depend which shop you go into as the prices aren't fixed for tobacco products like they are in Germany where all packs of cigarettes etc costs the same as the price is printe don the tax stamp.

          Very useful, thanks.

So, 429kr means around £40 for a roll of the good stuff. That's steeper than I would have thought.

Thats with tax and VAT etc included don't forget, the tax on snus has not long gone up in Sweden from what I have been told which is why its more expensive.

Thanks. So if you buy snus at the airport you would have already checked in your plane luggage? So the only way is to bring back snus in your hand luggage? Is that right?

yup, just take one of those small suitcases or a laptop bag, you can get a fair amount in them, if you have bought it inside sweden just fill up your nomral suitcase and buy a few rolls and carry on in the bag they give you, always did that with cigarettes.

Yeah, just as Skell18 says, fill your suitcase in town. Although i cant tell you what happens next in relation to limits and customs scanning your luggage as i didn't check any. I fly 3-5 times a week world wide for work and i know my bag gets searched after i check it 30% of the time.

Size of you carryon isn't an issue. In theory i could of fit 60+ rolls of 10 in my bag (i flew British Airways, i think they might have larger bag allowances than say, Ryan Air) but I would like to hear from someone as to the limit you can buy from Duty free.

As i have just recently starting full time Snus'ing to quit smoking. I will keep you guys updated on my findings world wide from the perspective of a tourist.

Thanks very much for the report.

So if flying from Europe to Asia and manage to find an excuse to do it through Stockholm is this the duty free price?

Like the Norwegians who go to Sweden buy snus on the ferries?

I am confused as I thought I read somewhere that there were places where it was dirt cheap- like the sale at Buysnus right now. US$15 and 20 a roll.

Snus is fantastic for giving up smoking!!!

                            Thanks for the quick response.

Some men dream about sex, some about money. My burning fantasy is to walk into that snus cooler type room at an airport in Sweden....

No worries. I have email alerts on and a day off today. So a few movies and a few different flavours of Snus is my day plan. Ha
