What do your friends/family think of your Snus use?

My wife doesn't really like me doing it, but accepts it's better for me than smoking, and that it keeps my mood in check. She refers to it as my "Swedish Mouth Crack"

My wife hates snus and most of my friends think im insane to use snus. Disgusting, they say.

I have tried to stop a couple of times. Not because they want me to, but because I want to. Perhaps the can of Thunder I have in my pocket is my last snus.

The problem is that I that I love snus with liquorice. The combo of nicotine, salt and liquorice may increase blood pressure and I suffer from frequent nosebleed from the right nostrils just over my favourite snusplace.

Here's an article on snus and blood pressure - its swedish. Use google translate to reed it: http://www.lakartidningen.se/07engin...rticleId=10812

At the beginning, my girlfriend was OK with it because she couldn't stand the smell of smoke and I was smoking inside the house ( I couldn't care less: it's my house and I do what I want). Then she was curious and she did want to try some Skruf lose. The result was terrible as she did feel like drunk for 2 hours, so now she is bitching even about snus as she says it's like a drug and more likely I will **** up my brain. Also she says I look like a hamster with that stuff under my lips. But once again I couldn't care less...
To revenge on her, I did make her try some Makla Ifrikia saying it was something very mild and guess what? This time she did feel drunk for half day

My wife snuses as well, so no problems there. I have also turned a f ew people on to snusing. I have not found anyone, that once they get past the "Is it chew/dip?" question, that have any issue with it at all. Everyone I have talked to about it says, well good for you finding something much less harmful and giving up the cigs.

Well, it seems a lot of people here still think this is the same as dip. I try to explain and it does no good lol. So to hell with it. I just keep it out of sight when meeting new people.

That is about how my wife and immediate family see it. Friends who smoke or dont see it as instant mouth cancer. Work people who dip are just happy somebody else is using oral tobacco but will not switch because of the lack of buzz/flavor and ordering online is foreign to them.

I don't have a partner, but my folks have seen me off snus and its not pretty. They can see the positive impact has on my mental health, such as much better memory, attention, less OCD, better sensory gating (google it!) and fewer negative symptoms such as depression. It's no great surprise that Big Pharma have been working on developing drugs based on the therapeutic effects of nicotine for schizophrenics for years. It's a great plant for this diagnosis, if I were in charge I'd prescribe it. Well I mean 90% of us use tobacco anyway (generally smoked) so why not give out snus? The fact that its addictive is small fry when you compare that with massive improvement in quality of life.

As far as my wider family and friends, I couldn't give a hoot what they think, I do what I like.

It's a mixed bag for me, honestly. My best friend is just fine with my snusing and snuses occasionally too. As far as my immediate family, my parents absolutely despise it. They lump it together with chew or dipping tobacco, and are like omg you will get mouth cancer. I explained to my mom that Swedish snus is regulated as a food product in Sweden and that carcinogen levels are next to none. While she listened, it unfortunately fell on deaf ears. Just shows how misinformed general American society is. The only family member that's okay with my snusing is my little brother. He actually understands and would rather see me snusing than smoking all the time.

Whenever someone asks me about it it gives me the opportunity to discuss harm reduction. Most of my friends are pretty open minded, and while I haven't convinced any smokers to quit yet, I know there are a few who have questioned me at length and are considering trying to make the switch.

My GF isn't crazy about it, but she trusts that I know what I'm talking about regarding snus's almost nonexistent health consequences.

Frankly, people don't care. I've offered some to those of my friends who smoke, but they weren't interested. So yeah, it's something I do and that's that.

In the beginning, I started in 2006, my wife liked anything that made me stop smoking cigs. She really didn't mind snus since I didn't spit with it or, have a huge lump of tobacco in the front of my lip. My friends all smoked and most of them were intrigued about Swedish snus especially after trying to read the Swedish warnings on the back of the can. Most of them now use Swedish snus in places they can't smoke like the bowling alley and when we golf. Mind you though.....there's nothing like a great cigar after a round of golf. :-)

most of my family and my "inner circle" are smokers and most say they find snus disgusting.... but their envious looks reveal everything when we are on a holiday flight together with them deprived of smokes and anxious. They have to admit my habit is quite convenient.

A lot of my friends a smokers and they don't care much about my snus, but my mother and some friends think it's the most disgusting thing in the whole world.
I have a very few friends who are encouraging me to keep on with snus, so I don't smoke, which is pretty good. Just having one or two people backing you up is enough to keep the spirits high.

Everyone I know is just happy I don't smoke anymore, my family especially. I explained to them about snus and my mother said that as long as I wasn't killing myself anymore its all good. She didn't know anything about snus and was worried about my mouth but I showed her the research and explained it and has no problem with it, my father is of the pinion that if you know the risks and choose to do it then why not, but he still wasn't happy with me smoking but had never said he was unhappy I smoked (he used to smoke) my grand parents all used snuff anyway so they have always been ok with that.

Alot of my friends are curious about it and a few have tried it and liked it, one has now quit the fags and gone to snus full time
