    Guilty secret - I don't like Pioneer

    There - I've said it!

When I first ordered it I couldn't reconcile the reviews saying it tasted like a very pure tobacco taste with the flavour I got - which was very aniseedy with elements of caraway. But everyone else was complaining about the anis taste in the snus batch so I figured I just had a bad batch like the rest of the people.

But no - this time I have a batch of this snus that is way too new to be of that problem batch ... the anis is not too strong, but it still tastes like caraway to me.

Don't get me wrong ... I really would give the few remaining healthy teeth in my rotten head to enjoy this naturally made, independent snus company based in Laos. It's everything I should be dreaming of...

But instead all I can taste is the overwhelming flavour of something I don't like ... I don't think it's bergamot, and it's not too strongly flavoured either - but whatever it is ... it's not the taste of pure tobacco ... and I don't like it.

Sorry Pioneer guys ... it's just as well I have vowed never to but snus from Northerner again as if I enjoyed your snus I think I would crumble and order through the dreaded N again.

    But I don't - it's horrible.

    Cheers

Sacrilege! I'm surprised you don't like it. My biggest complaint is I think they use a bit too much glycerin(or something). It's a little clumpier than I'd like.

Sorry to here that Squeezy! I have a few rolls that I purchased a year ago when I realized how much I liked the Pioneer, They taste fine, exceptionally fine as a matter of fact. I still think it is one of the best tasting los snus out there, and i do not care for the taste of Anise in any way, so the later batches must be affected. Someone in the know on this one should sort this one out, Lxskllr or the Snusdog are pretty familiar with this one. I have lost my Northerner privileges care of the Governor, not that it was much of a loss really! Maybe a case of the regional tobacco undergoing year to year changes. I have a pris in now and all I get is goodness.

Beat me to it! Do you notice any thing different? Mine tastes fine, it is a year old batch. What exp date do you have?

Mine's the new style tin, and it expired in August some time. I didn't notice an appreciable difference from the crappy old tins that expired in 2009 if I remember right. I got to try them side by side, and there may have been a very slight difference, but I'd attribute that more to the small operation, than any core change.

To me the taste is very similar to an amped up Roda

But my stash was from the pre-liquorish batch

Did they ever get that fixed......seems I remember hearing that they did
When it's my time to go, I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my uncle did....... Not screaming in terror like his passengers

Mine's got an expiry date of Dec 15th - so I think at least we're singing off the same hymn sheet.

Look - I don't want to make this thread in to a bad advertisement for Pioneer. I think their efforts are laudable - and it's pretty clear that the tobacco used is top notch. There are plenty of quality snuses out there that I don't care for but are appreciated by many - it's more about my tastebuds I'm sure.

So for anyone out there thinking of trying Pioneer - please give it a go and ignore this thread! Since the demise of Gellivare and the coca-cola-ization of Gotlandssnus - it's pretty much the only independently made, traditional flavoured lös snus out there - and for that they are to be commended.

That's why I'm so pissed off that my tastebuds don't agree.

                      Cheers

I've never tried it. But love what Petter's been doing out there.

Quote from their website "This has not infringed on our main target of making a well tasting snus, fully comparable to more well known brands - contact us for a trial and you will find out!" I don't mind paying for my snus but they shouldn't offer to let you try a product and not follow through with their ad. only reason I have not tried pioneer.

I think that's meant to the people living in Thailand.

Yep! If I got wound up with everything advertised in the USA when they made it next to impossible to order here in the UK (are you listening Ploom?) - free samples included - then I'd be on here moaning about things every day!

                              Hang on ...
