I just had a look on the site. If you choose the UK as your country then all products from the US warehouse show up and almost everything is out of stock apart from some Thunder and some very niche products like the purified snus and chess. However if you enter the country as Sweden then you end up with almost the whole lot in stock and available to buy.

I don't think they're going out of business. But I do think that they are slowly closing down the US warehouse without telling anyone that's happening. It's a shame that the EU business has meant that we lose both ways as we are not allowed to order from the Swedish warehouse. At least Northerner can go back to shipping from Sweden to the US like they did before.

This company started off by selling all things you could only normally get in Sweden to the rest of the world from their Swedish warehouse. One of those things was snus which quickly became the biggest thing they did ... and then the only thing they did with other tobacco products thrown in the mix ... then they started expanding in to the USA with the US warehouse and that was the first time any of us noticed a drop in the level of service from them. My guess is that they over-specialised and over-stretched themselves as a company at that point and have been trying to catch up ever since (nobody keeps that low a level of stock they are serious about supplying if it's still business as usual) - the result we see is just plain bad service.

What would your next move be if you were Northerner? I think it's either die a slow death with the US warehouse or ditch it and go back to Sweden with their tails between their legs and start selling Swedish sweets and nordic jumpers again - personally I think they'll do the latter. But they have annoyed a lot of snus users around the world who won't trust them anymore with the farce they have become in the last 4 months. As I say - it doesn't affect me as they are unable to send snus from Sweden to the UK in the current situation.

The moral of this story ... well don't do what Northerner did!

I'd look into setting up a Russian distribution system. Maybe it isn't feasible for various reasons, but having something close to the EU that isn't the EU seems useful to me.

I contacted them to ask why they don't have Phantom[Rothbrix] Brown anymore all I got was an email acknowledging my email.

That's what my move would be if i was them, and get Swedish Match back in stock, do some good deals for a while with free shipping, and word would soon get around

We are witnessing the death of snus in the USA. A product that costs $8 a can in the tobacco store or $35 to ship will never appeal to the mass market and snus will be destined to remain a specialty niche product.

What's ironic is that most of us found snus in the USA by trying Camel snus. Camel was cheap and everywhere. If their snus was decent it would have probably caught on like wildfire. I give Camel an A for marketing but a D for product. General is here but only in specialty tobacco stores. I don't know about the rest of the country but I don't see many people shopping at tobacco stores here except to buy an occasional cigar.

You got me thinking about the old fashioned tobacconists shops i used to see in my home town when i was a kid, and a teenager. I can't really remember when the last one shut, it must have been 25 years ago, maybe more, i can't really remember now. I remember one a few miles from me that my dad got his tobacco from, i remember the smell of fresh tobacco and coffee beans, lovely. It's all online tobacconist now. I'm in London next week so I'm going to visit Smith & Sons, 74 Charing Cross Road Happy Days!

This is the one closest to me. I haven't been in awhile, but it's a cool place to go. Tobacco people are the best people :^)

Ya tobacco shops are definitely still out there in various parts of the US. There is actually one 25 feet from where I work (same plaza) and the owner's son is a friend of mine. Definitely good people but I've been trying to get him to order me some General Mint for over a month and he claims he can't get it it from his 2 suppliers. I'm pretty sure he just doesn't want to be bothered but I assured him I wouldn't stick him with the rolls. I was more so hoping that others would try it and it would catch on rather then making it a normal purchase for me as I think I can get it cheaper online. Would be nice to be able to pick up a tin whenever needed but alas I can't order it for him

Just want to chime in and say do not use Northerner or their other website called Swedish-Snus. They were okay a few years ago, but I've had the same problems already mentioned here. I was living in WA state for awhile and found a place that sold General and used them for a year, then returned to using Northerner after moving to the east-coast. My first order got to me in two days as I'm pretty close to their warehouse, but then I had all the problems with shipping, and out of stock b.s. Tried Snuscentral, and am very pleased. Plus I've got Skruf again! Really missed it. You have to order more to get a good deal, but it was pretty fast. Snuscentral has a new customer in me.

I'm not sure that would be much better! There would still be the wait for it to get through customs for us in the EU - but I'm certain the length of time a Northerner order takes to reach us is mainly due to Northerner rather than the customs.

Also Russia doesn't seem like the most reliable place in the world (no offence)

                            For example:

I think the delivery time from Russia and the US is both 2 weeks - which isn't that bad as long as they immediately dispatch the order as soon as it is received.

Hey guys i ordered a package from the northerner on the 3rd.
