    Gotlands grey

Can someone who has tried this help me out.

I love Gul but when i heat eh word anis i automatically say hell no.

Ive had a version of a french absynth that calls itself absente.

Its not even close to the real thing but describes itself as a real anis based flavor.

I gave the bottle away. Does anis taste like licorice or am i retarded?

Any help on the grey flavor would be appreciated

If you like licorice you might like this. Its the flavor of the traditional glaze on a lot of Xmas cookies, if that helps. Not quite like licorice, but thats the closest flavor comparison imo. I just got some of the Gray and am really enjoying it. Dunno bout Absynthe being anise flavored though, thought it was Wormwood, but I've never had it either. Absynthe; from the Greek apsinthion, which means undrinkable. Guess it gets you high too?

I have a tin of los and I personally dislike it. In the US the only thing I could compare it to was black licorice. I hate the stuff personally, but some people like it. Its very comparable to black licorice so I guess go off that if that helps.

This to me has an aroma of anise but tastes like licorice, but not sweet, if that makes sense.

Genuinespirit has really nailed it with the flavour description. Personally I think of it as a grown up licorice. And it is brilliantly executed - as with all Gotlands products. IMO it is equal if not superior to the R&J portions.

I would suggest trying it. You may be pleasantly surprised.

Ps: I remember someone once mentioned that the Grey loose reminded them of N&J loose (taste not nicotine). Having missed the N&J loose I can't comment but maybe someone else can?

The Gotlands Grey and Old N&J Loose are not even simular. The Gotlands is a licorice and bitter tobacco flavor. The N&J was much sweeter with a carmel type taste.

If you don't like licorice, you are not going to like Gotlands Grey.

Had my first pris of grey last night and Wow i really liked it. I am a big anise fan so this works well for me. I do not think it can be an all day snus for me but After dinner it is just right. I can not wait to try it as is sip on a nice samboca or with a nice cup of coffee after dinner. Really a winner in my book. I used the loose but I see they make portions too is the flavor profile the same?

So basically nothing comes close to the N&J in taste then? Too bad. After all the hype about N&J loose I've been really keen to try something that was at least a tad similar.

I noticed someone else also made reference to the bitterness they pick up from some Gotlands products. Honestly I've never noticed that. Anyone else?

Nothing tastes close to me in Los anyway. You could get some N&J orginal portions which have the same taste profile. I was not a big fan of the N&J Orginal, I found it to have a stomach turning sweetness that is hard to explain. It did have its fans though.

If you are a smoker or recently quit smoker that may be why. Actually the bitterness is one of the things I love about all Gotlands products.

Nope. Been using snus for nearly 9 months now and smoke free all that time.

Maybe I am not noticing it as much since I am a fan of bitter tasting food/drinks (dark chocolate, black coffee, Guinness etc)?

This topic has however highlighted one of the great things about snus. We all have such divergent views on the "notes" in snus. It's becoming akin to a wine appreciation society

There seems to be something that gets everyone hooked on their products.

I opened a can of Gul portions last night after using Grönsnus, General Loose and R&J portions for the last couple of weeks and I was blown away (again) by just how good the Gul is. Happens every time. Simple, unobtrusive tobacco taste. Wonderful.

I don't see how anything will ever knock the triumvirate of Gul, Grön and Grå out of my top five list.

Ps: IMHO the R&J portions are pretty much identical to Grå (I believe they are made under licence?)

I've suspected all of those brands come from the same factory. R&J, Montecristo, and Taboca all have a similar base flavor to the Gotlandssnus products. I don't know if it's the island Gotland or what, but there's definitely a common thread with all of them.

Is it me or is Gotland a hard snus to bake?

It's one of the hardest I've tried. In the case of Gul, it leaves a wet stinky mess in my hand. I sure do love my IceTool ;^)

Yeah I used my poor mans icetool (CVS plastic syringe) the first ime last night but tonight I got cooky and hand baked and make an fing mess. Still tastes good but really an fing mess.

I hand baked a couple pris out of my can of gul no problem, I actually thought it came together really quickly. The can was open a week at the time (I usually just pop in the icetool), not sure if that made a difference or not.

might just be I have a technique better suited to the looser grinds, I find they stay together for me better than the finely ground types when I hand bake
