    Another newbie!

Hello all, and thanks for this board! It's rare to find such a condensation of information about a subject in one place.

I found Snus while looking for a nicotine delivery system other than smoking, and I think I've found it in Snus. I should point out that I'm not a smoker, just a heavy caffeine user. I'm a software developer, and I've been looking for something to give me that extra focus while working.

I just received my Mix portion package from Buysnus:

    Grov x 2
Nick and Johnny East x 3
    Taboca x 2
    Elixyr Power Energy x 2
    Elixyr Peppermint x 2

I tried out the Grov snus, and wow! There is a hell of a lot of nicotine in these things. I was dizzy after a short while, and had to remove it.

Does anyone have any recommendations on low-nicotine snuses to start with? I was thinking Catch mini portions, and Göteborgs Rapé Mini White Portions.

In the mean time, I'm going to try out the Taboca and Elixyr Peppermint, and see if they're any weaker than Grov.

Elixyr's not too good imo. I suspect it's Offroad sold under a different name. If you want less nicotine, give mini portions a try(not the Mocca+, it's strong). All of the regular portions are about the same. The nicotine effect may vary slightly between them, but they're all about the same.

Not a smoker? I'd guess many here are tobacco users who see snus as a preferential more refined, superior means of nicotine delivery, and probably the least harmful way of enjoying tobacco. If you're not a smoker, even the more mild varieties (Grov included) will be strong for you.

Have you considered that you're courting an 'addiction' you don't need and might regret later? If you're looking for extra focus... you might consider exploring meditation & breathing exercises. They work! no harmful side effects, only good ones. That's my take on it, and sorry, I have no other recommendations for you. Good luck.

        Very good points RobME.

Although I said I don't smoke, I do occasionally, when with friends who are good conversationalists, or when working on a particularly difficult problem. I really love the nicotine buzz, as it makes me feel sharp. I plan to use Snus in a similar way, infrequently but at the right times. So I'm not concerned with the addiction factor, unless Snus is somehow more addicting than cigarettes.

I found a way to make mini portions, from regular sized portions. I cut the side off, dumped some out, then folded it over. This will have to do until I can order some real mini portions. I'm strangely attracted to the Catch brand, although I haven't seen much mention of it on these boards, probably because it seems marketed for women.

I like Catch Eucalyptus a lot. It's one of my favorite snus'. If you like licorice, try LD Black minis. They have a lot of flavor for their size.

If you're in the USA (depending upon location)... Camel snus, or even better Triumph. Admittedly, I don't have a lot of experience but of the true Swedish brands, Grov is pretty nice, not too salty and you'll certainly get used to a fuller portion in short order. I wouldn't be so quick to buy mini's. If you search this site and read user reviews, opinions & comments you'll soon find a great disparity of taste perceptions. It can be confusing. One reco I can make is General. Seems to be a highly regarded brand and deservedly so. I'm a smoker and very much like their 'Sterk' and 'Onyx' offerings which would certainly be too strong for you. They do have available General 'Silver' which is marketed as mild. You'll probably love it. If you're gonna be addicted... might as well enjoy it. and no... snus is by far more benign than cigarettes.

RobME is totally right - just be very careful about not picking up another addiction.

You may be thinking that you're safe because you only smoke infrequently, but with Snus you can easily enjoy it anywhere, anytime, making it easier to have a portion while at work, on the ride to/from work... it could very easily lead to a habit and addiction, so just be sure to be honest with yourself about how often you find yourself 'snusing' :P
