Surprising Disappointments

Hi everyone,

I thought this thread might be fun. Is there a snus that's generally accepted as high quality that you personally cannot get into? In other words, a can that you buy solely on the suggestion of plenty of happy users, but are suprisingly disappointed?

I'll start. I've purchased normal, white, and los Goteborg's Rape, based on the insistence of a friend snusser. ("Dude, you don't like it?? Try the white portions instead!" etc.) For whatever reason, I can't get into the taste; it's just too flowery for me. I find the los relatively difficult to bake as well, though I am far from an expert (or even decent, probably).

Similar experiences with brands you really want to like, but can't get into?

Hmmm. Röda Lacket is popular with some. I just couldn't get into it.

I really like Rape' lös, but don't care too much for the portions. That might be just because I don't care for white portions, though. The flavor of Rape' #2 is nice.

I didn't think Skruf Stark or Skruf Original were all that, but the Cranberry is nice.

On the whole, I've found that snus is very similar to pipe tobacco, in that there is something for everyone. Everyone has their favorites, and everyone is right.

Gotland Yellow was a disappointment to me. Heard all sorts of great things, and even like most bitter snus, but not this one.

My biggest disappointment is Offroad snus. It was never recommended by anybody, but I thought last years flavors sounded interesting. 24g of suck in every tin :^/. Stupidly I bought this years set knowing exactly what I was getting. So far the Brandy, Honey, and the Strawberry are crap. Maybe the Orange and Eucalyptus will be good...HaHaHa... Yea right :^P

For real snus, I don't care much for General. I don't dislike it, but it's nowhere near the top of my snus list.

After what I'd read the real disappointments were; Goteborgs Rape & #2, Jakobssons Ice-Fruit and Roda Lacket.

Gotta strongly agree with this...

I actually am giving Ettan another try right now and I appreciate the flavors a bit more now.. still not as good as Grov to me, but its a good neutral snus when I am usually a RL fiend.

I agree about Ettan. As a former smoker, I wasn't able to fully appreciate it until my taste buds came back. The same is true about Skruf Stark Los. Maybe I'm in the minority thinking the taste is a bit subtle, but it's a very solid snus that I wasn't able to appreciate for a while.

I think most people are disappointed that they can't get into Offroad, what with the large product line and the relatively cheap price.

Interesting. This one gave me the worst headaches I have ever had. It was a major letdown as I did grow to love the taste. I refuse to buy it again knowing how it makes my head feel.

Well, There must be something to this as Göteborgs Rapé No2 gave me headaches every time i tried it. I have to agree with Spirit72 on the Röda Lacket, los and white portion, Its just not my taste I guess. But I Like Ettan Los, maybe its the cut, I'm not sure.

As a newbie to Swedish Snus, my dissapointments (after getting through the initial salty taste trial) are Offroad (even though I read a lot of bad comments, I still ordered 3 tins of different flavors because they were appealing to me), Skruf Cranberry and N&J East.

Göteborgs Rapé was by far the biggest let down so far. I thought I would love it.

I still have two cans left in the fridge and my opinion may change in the future, but I have to agree with Skuffan's "too flowery" comment at this stage...

Göteborgs Rapé #2 was slightly better but still a bit on the sweet side for me.

I also don't enjoy Lucky Strike White. It was like Ettan White with a some kind of sweetener added to the outside of the portion.

This may be because I bought the Luckies in South Africa. If I remember correctly someone said the flavour profile down there is slightly different to the version marketed in Sweden. I'll have to try the Swedish version some time and see if it is an improvement.

My biggest let down was Grov. Tastes like crap.

However my biggest suprise was Goteborgs Rape No. 2. I thought i would hate it because of the fruit notes but i love it. Alot better than the original.

It had the best salt:taste ratio. Definately one of my fav portions so far.

I have to agree; I order Gotland Yellow every once in a while, but it just doesn't move me. I actually like the Green a lot more...

Probe is another one I can't stand that people seem to like, although there is probably an equal amount of love/hate on this board when it comes to that one. :wink:

Does not taste like whiskey at all, moreso like a cheap convience store 'devils food cake'.
