Where I work we produce private label and storebrand versions of all of our products. 95% percent of the products being produced for private labels is no different except for the packaging. You can watch the final product approach packaging and see it approach 4 different baggers. One or two will be wrapping the company logo, premium product. The exact same product on the other baggers is wrapped in store brand or private label bags. Only difference is the packaging.
For this reason there are very few things I will not buy the generic equivilant of. Store brands have to be produced in a facility that specilizes in certain products. There is no huge generic manufacturing plant pumping out store brand mustard, ketchup, milk, bread, salad dressing, butter, etc... Most generics are the name brand item with a different label.
Snus though seems more unique to follow this example. I can't imagine General agreeing to pump out a few thousand extra cans of snus to be sold in Kronan cans. I have yet to find a lower priced snus that tastes or feels exactly like it's premium counterpart. On the other hand if I'm low on Yellow Mustard i can feel comfortable not picking up French's.
