It just so happened that way, and that is very true. I just recently left my hometown and am attending college.
Well anyway, in the past I have found it hard to explain anything to my parents and their generation, either they have been believing something for too long to consider it inaccurate despite their lack of ever researching the fact. Or it is F'ing magic like the internet and its tubes...
Research is the key to finding out the benefits of harm reduction. Now, with the age thing, I'm 46 and researched the heck out of snus back in 2007 and learned quite a bit about it. The history, the product, the manufacture of it, everything. I pretty much went OCD on Swedish snus. When I talked about it with my parents, who are in their mid 60's, they were intrigued but, they don't' smoke. My wife's dad, who had a stroke 15 years ago and still chain smoked, refused to try it. Said "only Hillbillies use chewing tobacco!", even after I told him about how there are way less risks using snus than smoking. He did however, tried E-Cigs a few months ago. His big complaint was that they were too heavy. I gave him one of the new ones coming out next year by VapeCorp that looks, and feels, like a real cigarette and he loves it. He began to do some research on both e-cigs and snus and now uses both instead of smoking. It took over 5 years to get him to give it a try but well worth it. Sometimes, you just have to keep chugging along and they'll eventually get it, even if it just to shut you up about it. :-)
F what they think, you don't live your life FOR them. You know what is best for you, go with that. No reason to ask for their understanding or permission if you are an adult. Go about your way and if they understand your choice, that is good. If they don't, then OK, who cares.
Amen to that! Whether they approve or not, I will continue. Like I said in an earlier post, I like the feel of nicotine, as well as using tobacco, and the fact that I can do so without smoking, while reducing overall harm to my health is a great thing! People are also afraid of change. As far as nicotine and tobacco goes, I feel strongly that e cigs and snus are the way of the future. I have a feeling it will be much like people switching over from Internet Explorer to Firefox before it became mainstream. Just like people then thought that the big blue E was the internet, people today think the only way of getting nicotine is via more harmful methods like smoking or using dip. I hope, that like Firefox for web browsers, snus and e cigs become more mainstream and in turn people become more accepting of these alternatives. Sorry for the tech comparison lol, but I am a bit of a nerd at heart. Heck, my college major is Information Technology.
