    Am I doing something wrong?

I've been snusing for 2 days now. I've been a smoker for 4 years and need to kick this disgusting habit. I notice people always talking about the "taste" of various snus'. I however can't taste anything for the life of me. I am using general original and mint. I put it in my upper lip and just leave it there for about an hour. I feel the nicotine but no taste of anything..... Are you supposed to move it around or do some technique in order to taste it?

This may sound stupid. I'd appreciate some help.

Your taste buds have taken a beating from the cigs so it may take awhile to taste the snus. I'm a bit surprised you're not getting anything from the mint though.

Yeah, your taste buds are probably a bit traumatized if you've just quit smoking. They'll improve in no time.
Also, try popping a portion into your mouth and using your tongue to wet it a bit before jamming it up under your lip. You'll get some flavor that way.

        +1 on the above posts

Try some Thunder Frosted..........you should be able to taste that as your taste buds recover
When it's my time to go, I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my uncle did....... Not screaming in terror like his passengers

Agreed. General Original is a bit on the dryer side of the original portions and General Mint is a white portion so, giving them a little saliva before placing them in your lip should do the trick until your taste buds come back to normal. I know when I first started using snus, for about a week, all I tasted was the saltiness in Original portions. Whites, didn't taste anything but after that week, the flavors started coming to me. All I can advise is to stick with it and the flavor will come.

To Snusdog's point, the Thunder brands are very powerfully flavored and you'll have no problem tasting the flavors in them but, they are twice as strong in Nicotine from what you're used to using so, beware!

          hope this helps!

Like the others said, right now you can't taste much because of the cigs. When I was smoking I thought that my taster was just as good as the next guys. After about three years of not smoking and using snus I taste things I had rather not. I smell things that I never knew had a smell haha. The mint you are using should have a taste though. The general will have a strong taste after your taster wakes back up. Like the post before me said maybe try some thunder frosted. And stay away from "white" portions. You'll read stuff saying white portions taste better but i have never agreed with that.

If you have ever used cope or skoal you're not going to find snus as strong tasting as a rule of thumb. I will tell you this, if you stick with it not only will you stop smoking but as your taster comes back you will start tasting many elements of snus. you will get so that you can do a snus and not only taste the main taste (mint for example) but what kind of mint, if it is a blend of mint you will know which types of mint, maybe a little citrus, etc. Its hard to imagine what I mean until the smoke clears. Hang in there and stay off the cigs.

Before you put a portion in break up the snus and move it evenly around in the portion. I've found that kind of gives it a quicker taste.

Oh yea, when I first started I would shift it around my mouth. Also after thinking more I can remember having a portion in and drinking coke and letting it "seep" through the snus. Not recommended because it will probably hurt the nicotine but yea I did that.

One day in a couple weeks (if you stop smoking the cigs during this time), you'll pop in a snus and be AMAZED at how this previously tasteless snus now is ridiculously goooooood. We've all been where you are now, so just hang in there and your tastebuds will come back to their healthy state ;-)

Lol yea thats what I do. I move it around all the time. I DO taste it that way. I usually just squeeze down on it with my upper lip which seems to work. But just leaving it idle up there does nothing taste wise.

When I first started with the snus, I would often flick my tongue up and lick or push on the pouch in my lip to get a little flavor if it wasn't already there. That's a habit that's stuck with me.
