Don't beat yourself up over it. I know exactly one language(mostly :^P ). Sometimes I have no idea what's going on around here. I figure people seem happy, so I just move along. You likely understand more than I do :^D

Lets not get too excited about how amazingly democratic and un-corrupt Russia is :-)

And remember that although bound to some extent by the EU parliament and all it's failings, the EU member states are still autonomous countries with their own very different takes on law, politics and democracy - and if any issue is enough of a national one the governing political parties will fight each-other to show how they will defeat Brussels to their electorate.

Unfortunately the single issue we are concerned with here is that of the snus ban ... and it's one where the EU has completely ****ed up ... but it's also one that none of the member states except for Sweden really care about because so few people outside Sweden (maybe Finland & Denmark) use snus and it is not a vote winner.

That is what happens in a democracy unfortunately ... not the fair thing ... but if not enough people are outraged, change is very rare which is why it is important to think hard about restrictive legislation in the first place.
