    Newbie: advice needed

Ok, I am a Longcut Skoal Mint guy in Germany. I will spare you the details, but getting it here is an expensive, ineffective pain. I tried some of the General Lös that was cheap at Northerner. Tastes like Cope to a Mint guy. That is just the "real" tobacco flavor. Couple questions. What can I expect for taste in the 8 can sampler. More of the same. Not bad, but..... It is much finer than my Longcut. I need to change my "messing with it" habits. I could also use suggestions for a Snus closest to my Longcut, on the one hand, and to my Mint on the other. Any brand from Sweden will do. As it is in the EU, it costs twice as much for me as it does if I was back home. However, no customs problems. Which, is making me crazy with the train trips to pick it up, details to avoid taxes, going without when it really gets screwed up, incompetent customs people, bothering people back home to ship it, etc. I will pay the taxes to have a company to question when there are problems. Sorry about the length and the rant.
PS I am not just wanting a Skoal substitute. Advice on the other Lös is helpful. I may switch to the real flavor types. How do they compare to General?

    Help,
    Kevin

      Offroad

No, I have only tried the General so far. Offroad Icemint is an option I saw. I have not heard good things about Offroad here. Is the other Lös Snus as finely cut and lightly flavored as General, in general?

Thanks for the reply. I had hoped I would get more opinions. So, thanks.

I just tried Phantom Los today and love it.

Its a brand from V2 which also makes offroad, phantom is the cheap stuff they offer.

People hate the portions. Most will tell you the Los is far superior.

Offroad offers a Long Cut Wintergreen. Check it out on Buysnus under the Loose tab on the left.

          Tastes

I read a lot of people highly rating the more established brands. I attributed that to quality, but maybe some of it was taste. Maybe guys like me prefer the Snus more like what we are used to. The General is growing on me some. I will give the OffRoad and Phantom brands a try based on what you guys say. It may be what I am looking for. I think I will also do the sampler and broaden my horizons.

          Thanks to you as well.

Dude snus is pretty much completely different than dip. I'd say that putting it your mouth is where the similarity stops. It is much more moist and had no sugar whatsoever. The salt is the first thing most Americans would notice beside the texture.

The way you use it was an obstacle for me. I was used to drawing on my chew to work up a spit. If you do that with snus it will just make a mess.

You could try the offroad longcut. I've never had it, but I suspect as far as texture it's not the same as skoal longcut.

As for taste. Yeah everything I've tried is lightly flavored compared to dip. I came from smoking and using Copenhagen long cut. It took me a while to switch. I'd prefer general to cope now though. After you get used to it you suddenly start to notice the subtle differences.

I've seen someone compare it to booze. Like once you get into specific liqueur or beer the finer nuances seem more apparent. For instance bourbon or scotch.

Comparing snus to dip is hard.

I tried most of what buysnus sells. I never got into mint dip so I really couldn't recommend any mint snus.

Keep trying you'll find something you like. You may even end up with a flavor you didn't expect to like. The other thing people have said that I found to be true is that something that is bad on the first try will taste good a week or two later.

                Welcome to the forums bud.

I will echo the Offroad long-cut comment from before. I typically do not use it, but I like a nice fat wad in my lower lip now and again. WHen I do, I reach for my offroad long-cut (pure tobacco, not wintergreen. Mint isnt my thing) or my trusty can of copenhagen.

Maybe I have an iron stomach, but I dont spit with either.

As far as you being a mint sorta guy. I'd definately say the OR American Wintergreen long-cut. I got a can in my last order for a fella I work with. He dips Grizzly wintergreen and hasnt touched his grizzly since I brought him the offroad.

Keep in mind that just because a brand is talked about more or is highly regarded frequently doesnt speak for what you will like.

Advise is the best place to start. But do not be afraid to try something others dont like.

If you are looking for what you posted above Offroad American Wintergreen Long cut sounds like your cup of tea.

But hell man , try em all. Then let us know what you think of what you try.
